While this nailer is not meant for continuous commercial framing applications, it does just fine for what it was intended...home maintenance and light construction around the property. Ran a box of 2" galvanized nails through the thing while replacing a fence...no problems what-so-ever. Buy and use the Paslode cleaning and lubricating products, perform the recommended maintenance at the recommended intervals, use either Paslode nails or those identified as compatible, and it will do you well. It has earned a permanent place in my tool locker.

Working on a residential/commercial framing crew that uses the Paslode Impulse almost exclusively and nearly every day of the year, I can honestly say this tool has held its own. We've owned around 14 or 15 of these guns in the past 4 years so we've had a broad range of experience with them. We have run thousands upon thousands of nails (both smooth shank and ring shank) through each of the guns before having any severe difficulties. I will say if you frame every day with them like we do, they do wear out, just like any nail gun (or tool for that matter).
br /
br /We've worked in the nastiest conditions imaginable with them. 100 degree heat in the summer, and 20 below zero (-40 wind chill) in the winter (that's Minnesota for you) and they still work. Snow, rain, ice, mud, our guns have seen it all.
br /
br /You can go quite a while without cleaning them, but not forever. Because they run off a combustion chamber (the gas is ignited) and not air pressure, they get carbon buildup. But unless you're working in Iraq in the sand, you don't need to clean them every two days.
br /
br / The guns are durable! In terms of dropping or abuse, they are much more durable than the Pneumatic nailers because they are plastic. We've dropped them off of roofs two and three stories up, shook the dirt out of them and gone back to nailing. We've accidentally dropped the pneumatic guns 3 feet onto the concrete and broken the cast housing. In this case, plastic is better.
br /
br /But having built dozens of houses with them, I can honestly say they are a tool worth the money. So for all you weekend warriors, with a sizeable project to accomplish, the Paslode Impulse will hold its own.
br /
br /Look at it this way. A coworker and I framed up a 30 x 40 garage with a 10 foot ceiling, 1 access door, 2 garage doors, and 3 windows in a weekend using two of these nail guns. That includes trusses, wall and roof sheathing, house wrap, and the windows installed. I bet you can't do THAT in a weekend with a hammer and nails.

A great multi-purpose framing nailer. The consumables can sometimes sneak up on you, expense-wise, but the convenience far outweights that. It's a lot lighter than it looks, and will shoot a 3 1/2" ring-shank nail through wood with ease. For deck and dock work, there's really no better tool. Mine has been maintenance free, but I do follow the instructions on cleaning it. Also, make sure you're aware that this gun doesn't include the 'No Mar' tip. The gun has a 4-prong nose that is the safety; i.e. you have to depress this on the wood before the gun will fire. Paslode designed the prongs to work well in toe-nailing situations, but be warned: If you're doing top-level deck work, you'll need the 'No Mar' tip so that you won't leave behind 4 little marks at every nail shot. The 'No Mar' tip is a simple replacement nose piece that has a piece of rubber, instead of steel prongs, for it's bottom. No biggie, just wanted to make everyone aware of it. For pure framing, you won't need it, though.Very good, very reliable tool that has served me well.

Perfect for my needs and more...

I purchased this nailer back in August and have used it for various applications around the house. The main reasoning for the purchase was for a basement finishing job but it was a stockade fencing job that it came in most handy. This fence was situated in an area that made it very difficult to maneuver and since I was by myself it was that much harder. Without this gun I would never have been able to hold the stockades to the posts and at the same time apply a fastener; I would have gone crazy trying. This gun made a grueling task into, well...perhaps an achievable and generally acceptable task (I JUST COULDN'T SAY IT WAS FUN). The gun has always fired when expected with one exception. This was when I inverted it. When the gun is inverted it sometimes will misfire. Other than that this is one well thought out tool. The advantage of not dragging around a hose and compressor is really important to me, especially on small single man projects. This gun's only limits are in heavy production (home building) environments. I think that building homes would be a bit taxing for it and pneumatic nailers would be better suited; though I am sure it would be handy in many home building scenarios also. This Gun is perfect for: Home extensions, remodeling, decking and fencing. The gun was originally designed to fire clipped head nails but Paslode has introduced an assortment of full round head nails for this gun as well. These nails dubbed "RounDrive" are available mainly in the western regions of the USA but I understand that they will be available in the rest of the USA soon. I am from the east coast and still have yet to find them on the shelves. Many local ordinances are requiring full round head nails for certain applications like sheathing so this is a welcomed and necessary offering. I wish to add that I purchased this nailer through Amazon and was very pleased with the price, shipping time and service. Amazons price was extremely competitive beating my local DYI by over $30.00. If you are in the market for a nailer for home improvement and/or remodeling work look no further this one will fit the bill...

I am an old school contractor that was very reluctant to go to a cordless nailer. I have seen the Paslode's on many a job site but felt guilty about trading my Estwing for a nail-gun, but after 2 back surgeries I gave in and bought a Paslode Framing gun and now I couldn't be happier, it is a time and back saver. I highly recommend this product for anyone that does a lot of work by yourself, just being able to hang the gun on your pouch is like having another hand. Also, you get two men with Paslodes walking the plate hanging trusses without having to drag hoses around, then you will certainly appreciate this framing gun. To the contractors that feel the cost of the gun is a issue; I guarantee you will be able to save money by increasing production...and we all know how important time is to us!? While nails run around $50/50lb they and the gun will pay for themselves on just one job.

I recently purchased one of these to frame my basement. Being that I live in a new development of homes and most of the basements aren't finished, my neighbors also anticipated getting some use out of too.It works like a charm. Never jammed, never misfired. Puts a nail wherever you want. It's not too heavy and can fit just about anywhere. We put up basically everything that can be framed with this nailer.I used Paslode's nails (which I'd read are much more reliable for use in this nailer). I don't know if that's what made things run so smoothly, but if so, they were worth every penny.I have to say that I never 'cleaned' it - I'd simply pop the battery out at the end of the day and leave it sitting right where we'd left off. This doesn't seem to have affected the performance at all...Quite honestly I don't think you can go wrong buying this. I've used it A LOT and am thoroughly happy with its performance.

I have had my eye on this thing for a while, however, before deciding to purchase, I rented from Home Depot to tackle a medium size deck project. I after using this impulse framing nailer all weekend, I am a bit torn. When it is working well, it is a dream. Other times, it can be downright frustrating. (In defense of Paslode, it is not recommended for use on 2" pressure treated lumber and that is exactly what I was using)
br /
br /#1 it is heavy to be using all day everyday
br /#2 the nail capacity of 1 strip seems like a very small amount
br /3# Capacity of each gas cartridge is amazing!!!
br /#4 Use Paslode nails for reliability, but they are $$$
br /#5 Can only shoot about 3-4 shots before need to refil combustion chamber with fuel, about 10 seconds, not a big deal for a DIYer but bad for a professional.
br /#6 For $400 should include a no-mar tip!!
br /#7 Body is all plastic construction, which makes it seem a bit cheap
br /#8 Nice case for unit, battery and charger, plus stoage for a couple of gas cylinders.
br /#9 NO COMPRESSOR TO LUG AROUND OR HOSES TO GET CAUGHT

I am a residential home builder. This is by far the best single tool I have ever owned. I own two of these units today and still have my first one ever purchased in service. My oldest unit is 6+ years old and has build over 3 large homes on its own. This unit has shot over 140,000 nails and has been cleaned 5 times in its life. The only problem I have had is it needed a o-ring replaced 2 years ago. The other 2 cordless nailers I own have not had one problem at all. Even the battery has never been replaced. I have droped these nailers from over 20 feet on to concrete and have had no problem. I see that some people have problems with these nailer but that may be caused mainly from lack of brain cells. This is a wonderful tool.

I bought this nail gun to finish a few rooms in my basement. The Paslode Framing Nailer worked flawlessly. It nailed pressure treated 2x4s perfectly. I didn't have a single problem with it.
br /
br /The only thing I didn't like was the exhaust that the gun produces. Since it works off of an actual explosion, it gives off an exhasut that can be a little overwhelming if your not working outside or have the windows open.

br /for four years (thats 40 houses) and have had no touble what so ever with either gun i have.i use them to frame and nail all my decking and sheathing.proper maintinance is essential, but the same is true for my old senco framers, which are now collecting dust.these paslode guns are light and convienant with no hoses to drag around and no noisy compressor.granted they are not quite as fast as an air nailer.the convienance far outweighs any loss of time, which is minimal

I managed to talk my boss into buying a paslode when I was doing my apprenticship back then they were the old black model, it gave us so much trouble that we resorted back to the compressor powered gun. Well, many years on and I have started my own carpentry business and thought nothing of forking out for the "new improved" orange gun. So far I have found it to be an unreliable piece of kit that doesnt want to work in dampish conditions, and after a few seasons work has decided to start chewing up the main "O" ring just above the fan, now I will admit that I use between 5 and 10000 nails per week but she is cleaned twice a week and well looked after, I have traced the O ring trouble to the chamber that connects with the ring each time the element is depressed, and have found that it developed a burr on the edge which needed filing out. That seems to have cured that problem but it has now started misfiring, for some strange reason the tongue that pushes the nail into the timber is managing to slide past the nail although the nail is in the prime position. My verdict: good for light infrequent use, but just not up to real trade strength, sorry paslode but you need to lift the standard in order for me to buy another, I just hope dewalt come out with a similar design at least then I know it won't let me down.

The professionals use it.

I have been a Carpenter for 33 years, and have used all kinds of nail guns. The first time I used a Paslode Framer I fell in love. I have been using one ever since the late 80's I purchased my own in 1995. I have only had to have it in the shop two times. The first time was my fault, I cleaned it with a carburator cleaner which melted the wiring harness. The second time was just recently. I would be lost with out it on the job. It is a big time saver and has earned it self many times over. I have found that with regular cleanings and replacement of the cylinder O ring, it will give you alot of service without any problems. I have worked with alot of men that would not even oil, or clean the guns that run off a compessor. They would not empty the air out of the compressor, and could not understand why the guns started malfunctioning.

The features make up for the speed.

I ran about 10000 3 1/4" and ring shank nails through this tool(only Paslode nails). And while it won't keep up with the speed of an air unit the convenience makes up for it. For big jobs you need an air unit, I use this for small jobs 50 nails or less. I've never cleaned it or did any maintainace and I've yet to have a problem with it. After 4 cases of nails I'm still on my 3rd fuel cell. This product delivered exactly what I expected from it and I wouldn't give it up. The case is well designed but the charger is not so hot.

After 5 years still going strong.

I've used the paslode for framing, sheathing - shooting from 2" up to 3" ring shank nails and very rarely had any problems. My biggest complaint is that the nose has to be pushed hard into wood before the unit will fire, which makes toenailing harder. Obviously the best feature is not having to drag a compressor aroung. Also, the unit is very compact and will fit into tight spaces. I clean the unit every few cases of nails, use only paslode nails (the new roundrive nails work well when clipped head wont do), and find that it works very well. I believe most people who have trouble with the paslode are having trouble understanding the firing sequence: push ALL the way in - then pull the trigger - bang! and the nail is in. I dont suggest using it for laminated beams and such, it is too weak, but for general light framing, sheathing, punch-out, it is great.

Will someone please tell me what "light framing" is? The nature of the work itself does not change whether one wants to use a 16 oz. hammer to put together a house or a framing gun. So I'm not quite sure what those reviewers mean when they say this gun is for "light framing". It shoots nails into wood! Does it's being cordless somehow translate into some kind of limitation? As long as this nailer is working like it ought to, I don't see any reason why one would hesitate to use it in any situation one night find onself in when framing a house. For reviewers to categorize this liberating tool as a novelty is misleading to those who might benefit from it's use. Cordless is the future, get used to it.

Well, I had this tool for about a year without complaints. I wouldn't use it as a production gun but is good for small jobs where it's a hassle to bring a compressor with hoses. It does require a little more care than a ordinary nail gun but it makes up for it with convenience. I give it 5 stars.

I bought this nailer to finish 3 new rooms. It worked flawlessly. The depth of drive adjustment is super. One gas cartridge was all I needed for 3 rooms. As a matter of fact, I ran out of gas on the last few studs. The gun never jammed once. I did have to remove the gas cartridge and re-insert it one time because it was not seated properly. I used strictly 3 inch nails. You need to keep the battery on the recharger when you are not using the gun. If you leave it in the gun overnight, it will run itself down by blinking the silly green light to show it is active. As long as I left it on recharge each night, I was able to use it all day long without any problems. This is a first rate product, fun to use, saved me lots of time.

I once had an ex army ranger turned framer tell me that he would rather jump out of a airplane with an air hose than a parachute, because the hose will surely get hung on something , somewhere on the way down. while this is a little far fetched, using the impulse gun eliminates the "hung up air hose". it is great for light framing and punch list work. i strongly recommend this gun for people in the remodel/repair industry as well as the do-it-yourselfer.

After deciding to build a 16 x 24 2 story barn I set out to find the right tools. This framing nailer was great purchase and a real timesaver. I used 2 3/8 galvinized nails for the 3/4 plywood flooring and T1-11 siding. I also used 3" Interior nails for framing and 2 3/8 for second floor 3/4" OSB. Finally more exterior nails for the roof sheething.
br /
br /This worked flawlessly without a single jam. The only problem I found is that sometimes all the nails do not fire and I am left with 4 to 5 unused nails. All in all a great purchase and true timesaver. Just used caution as the nails can blow clear thru 7/16 OSB if you miss the framing.

Nice try, but I'm going to wait for other models.

The idea behind this gun is great-a nail-gun equivalent of the cordless drill and no compressor. Some of the hoseless finish nailers are great, but this thing just isn't able to compete with the pneumatic framing nail-gun. First, it's slooooow, especially on plywood. I realy question the claim of two or three nails per second. One has to push down and then pull the triger for every nail, then wait for it to recharge the chamber before it will fire again. Then there are the missfires. They are so often that sometimes I am wondering if it is messing up again or out of fuel again. The tip is almost useless for toe nailing and the toe-nail often still has as much as an inch not driven in. Finaly the handle is shaped such that it is hard to hold when framing a wall. When the sawsall and skill saw were new the respective company who popularised each made the best, and still do. But with the cordless drill the company that popularised it made a marginal one and the market was soon overran with better models. I do not know if the hoseless nail-gun will ever become pratical, but if it is we will have to wait for better models.

A good framing nailer that does suffer a few problems:It will overheat if used on high volume applications such as fencing; The depth of drive adjustment requires a tool, which is inconvenient if constantly changing between hard and soft woods; The spare parts such as "O" rings are expensive;Low magazine capacity compared with air nailers;Tends to misfire when inverted; Is louder than air nailers;Claimed battery life of 4000 nails appears to overly optimistic.Overall a great bit of kit, though there are a number of disadvantages that need to be considered. Perhaps when a competitor introduces a similar tool, Paslode when correct these problems which have been around since the early versions.

I use this tool every day. There is nothing like the freedom of not having a compressor and an air hose. This gun will nail off a subfloor or plywood shear nail for nail with any framing gun. They are dependable, cheap to operate and easy to take up a ladder. Truly a trade changing tool on par with robo laser, the speed square or the power miter saw. Once you use it, you won't go back to the old way. I have over 30 years experience, old dogs do get new tricks!

It is the best by far. The framer and angled finish nailer save alot of time and frustration. Warning to all who use them though, dont let them get too cold, tey take awhile to thaw, and if it is humid out do not put them in the case, just leave them out. Generic nails do work great, but some of the framers, won't shoot the last 5 nails. If the framer is dirty it wont set a ringshank 16 flush. But it is easy to clean with their video.Fuel cells dont last as long as they say though. The angled finish nailer, shot tons of nails & not a problem!

I run a residential remodeling company in the Boston area. The Paslode impulse framer is great for remodeling. I recently framed an adiition with it and it was wonderful not having a hose pulling on me when up in high places. The gun fires consistently and powerfully. I should point out I am not framing new houses and an addition is greatest amount of framing my company performs. The impulse framer is perfect for the limited framing involved in kithcen and baths, etc. and I would not trade it for a compressor and air gun for most of my work. But, the gun is completely unsuited for shooting down decks and sheathing. It will not bounce shoot (an advantage for toe nailing) which means rapid deck install is out. I would not buy this gun to knock out houses, but its the best choice for remodeling in general and is a godsend in tight places.

Pros:
br /Convienence of a cordless nailer.
br /More nails per load than others.
br /Fairly robust design and construction.
br /Paslode has been doing this for a long time.
br /Belt clip is well designed but bring a stout belt (its heavy).
br /
br /
br /Cons:
br /The depth of nailing is inconsistent.
br /Fuel cartridges are much cheaper at Home Depot.
br /Have to wait for charge to reload after a 1-4 nails are set.
br /Battery life far less than advertised.
br /Nail depth adjustment is VERY hard to use.
br /Battery takes a long time to recharge.
br /Probably not contractor grade (but maybe all cordless nailers are this way)

I wish I was the one who invented this! I like this 100 times better than my air nailers. This gun really comes in handy when I am having trouble holding 2 pieces together and can quickly shoot a nail in. My first framer is getting old and has been through the mill, I am ordering another. I framed a one and a half garage before I had to change the fuel cell and the battery was still going. I just can't say enough about it, so i'm going to shut up now!

I have owned this tool for about two years now and swear by it. It has seen me through a frame remodel and a siding installation using Swan fastener stainless nails in fiber cement. With the exception of but a few jams, this tool is quite reliable and economical to use and is able to get into some serious tight locations that would be inaccessible to a swing of the hammer. My dad always taught me there is a right tool for every job, this tool will save major time doing mass production framing work and major pain/frustration in providing access into tight spaces. Purchased the angled finish nailer a few months back and am as happy with it.

I never used a framing nailer before, I needed one for some home projects I was going to start. Well after buying all the supplies (extra batt., fuel cells, non-mar tip, and nails) I found this to be a little expensive somewhere around [$], but after using it many times with quick set-up I found this tool very useful. There is no lugging compressors around, by the way, to purchase a framing nailer and a decent compressor you are pretty close in price to this product. The nailer really works well it will drive nails with ease, would definitely recommend for the Do-it-yourselfer!

Not unlike the BETA vs. VHS video tape wars of long ago, I was caught in the PASLODE vs. PORTER CABLE cordless nailer conflict.
br /
br /I sided with the BAMMER finish nailer about 10 years ago, and while that device is still performing well (tip: buy all the BAMMER fuel cells you can, they are beginning to disappear from the market), I can already tell my PASLODE framing nailer is of superior design.

br /The PASLODE is POWERFUL, DURABLE, EASY to use and maintain, and a downright PLEASURE to use.
br /
br /I bought mine for a basement finishing project and it served well; my 16 year old son and I used it every day for weeks, and the lack of an air hose alone made all the difference in the world. I thought it might become a bit heavy during all-day use, but we were passing it back and forth for more than a couple of 12-hour days and didn't give it a second thought.
br /
br /I can't imagine how we every performed building construction without nail guns, and I feel sorry for those who are bound by compressors and hoses. I HIGHLY recommend the PASLODE framing nailer; buy one and free yourself.

After three years of use on several major projects, this item gets 5 stars. Before purchasing, I researched and interviewed several professionals that used the Paslode Impulse Cordless Framing Nailer. I carefully read and understood the manufacturer's technical material. Anyone that does likewise - and knows what to expect before they buy - should be well pleased with this tool. Jobs that once took all day to complete can now be finished in one hour. It's the next best thing to hiring someone to do the job for you. Thanks, Paslode.

This is the third Paslode framing nailer I've bought. I'm obviously a big fan. My first gun is 5 years old. I must have put close to a million nails through it. Sure it needed some replacements of parts now and again, most commonly O-rings (maybe a half dozen over its life).
br /I'm from Ireland. Look around any building site here and Paslode is all you'll see. A lot of the lads here don't know how to strip and service the guns so they pay 20 euro for a clean every couple of months. It does'nt take long to read the manual and learn.
br /A great tool. I don't know of anything else like it.

This is the second Paslode that I have had. They are great for framing and other jobs. One problem I have had with both is that they jam quite often, especially with the smaller size nails. The longer nails seem to work better.

Very nice tool to use. It is light weight. I like that you don't have carry around a compressor, or drag hoses to use this nail gun. It is loud, and you do need ear protection.

I use a framing nailer & compressor to build shipping crates, brace goods inside trailer for trucking, building walls, decks, etc. I bought this nailer for the smaller jobs (like crate building) instead of hauling out the compressor set up. I am more than impressed, it took half the time for this job because of the set up & clean up time. The tool works remarkably well. However, i did read through the manual and other reviews, noting that it is important to depress the contact tip fully before pulling the trigger.
.
For the larger framing job like nailing off a floor or on a job that is going to take all day, i would probably use the compressor set up, but this is a fun portable tool and I love it.

The nailer is the greatest. I use it all the time whenever I have something to nail and I love it. I tend not to use it on a regular basis so I have found that it is safer and better if you remove the fuel cell. The fuel cells tend to loose gas if left in the gun for long periods of time. I purchased the Paslode, the generation before this one and I found the gas cartridges seemed to last a lot longer. I guess this is the way things usually go when a company wants to sell more of something. Generally when I go to use it, the battery is always low on charge, so I need to charge it up. I like the gun the most because it doesn't move the material that you are nailing, like hitting with a hammer does. Remodeling is a snap. One problem I have noticed is the nails don't stay in the wood that well. It could be that they are not long enough or the coating is not that good. Overall I wouldn't ever be without my Pasload.

First, the price at Lowe's is $349.00; that's better than what I've just noticed on the web. And---check with your Lowe's---some stores offer a 10% discount for Veterans!
The only problem that I've found is the fuel cartridges. There is an expiration date printed on the bottom of the fuel cannisters. I still have not found one that's valid and not expired.
The tool is light in weight and offers a range of nail sizes.
The price is the killer plus the fuel expense is the con, but for the portibility; it's perfect.

Awesome,i am a structurel carpenter with the air force serving in Iraq. home is louisville kentucky, my freinds always said, BILL get a paslode, i was a air gun man, have it all with, air compresser, framing, finishing and brad guns. over here, because on the the war zone and the places we have to build, there is no way to lug a generater, compresser and hose's. i started using the paslode framing cordless nailer and now i am hooked, as soon as i get back i am going to buy the framing nailer and the angled finish nailer. i should have listened to freinds. there where times when the gun missed fired or would'nt even shoot, well, i found the instruction book, packed away, read it , cleaned the nailer and just like it was brand new, i love it and i feel like that kid on A CHRISTMAS STORY, instead of a RED RIDE RIDER BB GUN, i am looking forward to a PASLODE CORDLESS FRAMING and ANGLED FINISH NAILER

Let the Buyer Beware: It is not obvious until you receive your Paslode nailer that it is not to be used above 4500 ft (according to technical support) and the box says 5000 ft. We live in Colorado at 7500 feet and of course the gun is Dead ON Arrival - no fault to the gun. And then you can't return it for a refund because it runs on gas ... so let's just say that this was a VERY disappointing purchase from Amazon, who should be able to state very clearly the limitations of every product sold.

Not nearly as fast or powerful as a regular nailgun. It leaves nails sitting proud when firing into engineered wood or old old-growth framing, like we have so much of here in San Francisco. At certain angles (toe nailing)the Paslode is frustratingly hard to fire. Depending on the angle, I sometimes have to press with two hands, which is far from convenient. It sometimes will move the stud that I am trying to nail because I have to press so hard to actuate the thing.
br /
br /I own this gun and the Paslode angled finish nailer. The finish nailer is one of the best tools ever invented, the framing nailer leaves a bit to be desired for commercial work.
br /
br /On the upside, it seems to be very durable, and I'm happy with the performance of the batteries and the fuel cells. It just doesn't have the power, speed or finesse of a regular nailer. Portability is its main feature.
br /
br /Who knows? Maybe the one that I own is bunk, because the majority of reviewers here-and there are a lot of them-seem to love it.

So far this nailer has worked out great.
br /I'ver never used a framing nailer before, so I have nothing to compare it to. Im currently framing some new partition walls in my basement and I plan on adding some additonal decking outside.
br /The only thing feature that hasn't lived up to its specs is the amount of nails that it will drive on one fuel cell. It seems like it has only driven a little more than half the amount stated. However, I'm not disappointed because the fuel cells are inexpensive enough.
br /I highly recommend it to any noncontractor that has a relatively light use for a framiung nailer. The cost to buy it makes more sense than renting a nailer and a compressor for more than a few days. Especially if you may have a future use for it.

Generally pretty good.

Rented one from a chain super center (the orange one), and have no regrets. In fact, if I had needed it beyond the one job, I probably would've returned it right away and just bought one. It worked reliably for the day. Battery life was good (not sure if it was fully charged, made it through a few hundred nails over about 8 hours from the time we started working to the time we ended), and was still on the original fuel cell when we finished up.
br /
br /If you already have an air compressor, you might as well buy a compressed-air nailer. But if you don't, or you're working in a spot where an air compressor would be either really inconvenient or impossible, it's not a bad deal.
br /
br /The only issue I found was that sometimes, even pressed down all the way, the gun wouldn't fire, no matter how hard the gun was pressed into the wood. Backing off all pressure and pressing the gun all the way down again would generally do it.

I'm getting a little long in the tooth for construction projects but I decided to build a new garage anyway. I struggled with which nailer to buy so I could avoid the tendon strains and sore muscles from using a hammer. Dragging a compressor around did not appeal to me. It was between the Hitachi and the Paslode. Too many bad reviews on the Hitachi. I bought the Paslode and have run a half box each of 3" and 2" nails through it. The depth adjustment is terrific and simple. You can drive as many nails as you want as quickly as you can press the gun into position to fire. I wish the magazine could hold more nails. Every framing gun that I have used was always a little heavier than you want and this one is no exception. I am glad I purchased the nailer and my garage walls are standing because of it. Can't wait for the trusses to arrive.

I'm an instant Paslode fan after using this one. It's a very reliable and simple to use/maintain tool. Makes framing pretty easy, with no hoses or cables attached, and quite powerful.

The only downside is some tendonitis from overuse (but I can't stop using it, it's fun), and if you're buying outside the US it's ridiculously expensive. Not a problem for most of you I guess.

Another must have tool. Stay away from the other cordless framers on the market, none can compare to the PASLODE. Great for those smaller jobs when you don't want to pull out the compressor and hose. You'll find it easy to use, lightweight and plenty of power. Be sure to keep it clean. Recently framed an entire 20 x 30 garage with this gun just for kicks to see if it was up to the task. Worked like a charm. If only they made a coil version!!

Paslode has been making cordless framing guns for over 20 years and they're still the best. this cordless nailer is still more powerful than the Hitachi or the Max. it's more trouble to use both a battery and a fuel cell, than just a fuel cell, (as with the Hitachi or the Max), but the power is worth it. also, if you live above 5000 feet above sea level, you'll need Paslode's high-altitude fuel cells; (at high altitude, there's less oxygen, which affects combustion). i really like the feel and lightness of the Hitachi, but i still prefer this one.

I ordered this Paslode after using a Paslode finishing nailer to install 100s of feet worth of crown molding and base board in my last house. The Paslode Framing Nailer has not jammed once in over 1000 nails, only a few misfires. Its fine for the unexperienced home builder who does not need to lay down 10000 nails a day. I only use the Paslode nails, I have read that other brands jam the gun.

I bought this framing nailer for a small (12x16) cabin we were building in the Adirondaks. Since we had to haul everything up to the site the lack of need for compressor and airhoses was attractive. I am a good rough carpenter but not a professional. I had never used a power nailer before.
br /
br /We used the framing nailer for about 5000 nails over a two-week period and had only one jam, easily cleared. It was extremely reliable and had sufficient power for all our purposes. Some of the complaints about the speed of nailing were not an issue for us since we aren't a high-speed operation. There was no point at which the rapidity of firing was a problem for us. Toe-nailing was a bit of an issue but it was mainly a matter of getting used to aiming the thing to put the nail where you want it to go. Once I had the hang of it I really liked toenailing with the framing hammer.
br /
br /I liked the fact that the wood would not move when nailing or toenailing. The Paslode nails worked flawlessly, didn't try any other brand. I had no problem with the depth of the nails. Any need to change the depth was easily adjusted. No problem with misfiring. The belt hook and rafter hook was extremely useful. Great feature. Liked the safety of the fact that it would not fire until the tip was depressed and then the trigger pulled in sequence. If you hold the trigger down and depress the tip it won't fire. We had no accidental firing. Cleaning after the two weeks took about ten minutes and the instructions were very explicit.
br /
br /I am very happy with this tool.

Just finished a shed project with this nailer... I wished I had bought it earlier! In a previous shed project, I've used a power actuated hammer (the one that fires the .22 blanks) to put hardened (expensive) nails into concrete block (the wall along the side of the shed is a 6' concrete block wall to which I attached the shed). On this project, I was able to use the Paslode nailer to do the same job much more quickly and I used the common framing nails (which drove straight and true thru the 2x4's and into the concrete block. I love using my PC brad/finish nailers, but I need to drag around the compressor. With the Paslode, I just grab the case (very light weight) and go. Saves time, saves money. Can't get much better than that.

We dont use em for building walls, but for everything else, trusses eaves, deck subframes, lockups etc. between 5 of us we have 7 impulses, and only 3 are working reliably. they just dont last. my first one only went for 14 months and its stuffed, chews a rear o ring in 2 days. other than that, unbeatable for trusses. but if ya want reliability, compressed air kicks em 100 times over.

As a contractor by trade, I have nothing but good things to say about this gun. First and foremost, it is the logical replacement to air powered for obvious and already stated reasons: no compressor and hose. It does misfire on occasion but i'm sure it is purely because i have not cleaned or oiled it in 8 years. I know, I know...what a slug. If there is a complaint it is due to Paslode going to primarily all round head nails the last couple of years. The clipped head nails used to drive sure and deep every time. When i switch out the round for some leftover clipped heads, it goes from inconsistent to sure fire every time so it is not my imagination. But, i cannot even buy the clipped head nails anymore from the local Le Depot de Home.
br /Maybe i'll break down and actually do the required maintenance. It will probably help, huh?

I have the paslode cordless framer and the 15 ga. angled finish nailer. Both of these were puchased new in June of 2004. The trim gun has trimmed exactly 24 windows (with great trouble), the framer has approximatley 1-2 boxes of nails thru it (with a jam every 1-4 clips, provided your freehand rides the battery so it functions at all).
br / Both of these guns have been returned to Gotham Staple in Columbus, Oh (factory repair center) twice for repair, to my dismay no repairs have been covered by warranty. Neither of the guns are in active service they just ride in the truck, with Gothams repair tags still on them. I WILL GLADLY LOAN BOTH OF THESE TOOLS TO ANYONE WHO IS CONSIDERING THIS PURCHASE,IN THE CENTRAL OHIO AREA, I'LL EVEN THROW IN SOME NAILS, NOT MANY BECAUSE YOU WON'T NEED THEM. I tried two of these nailers and both do not always fire nails. Some days it is OK and others it is horrible. If you attempt to fire a nail overhead it sometimes will not fire even with a dozen tries. If you then climb down the ladder it fires into the floor or wall with no problem at all. Back up the ladder, same problem, pull the trigger and no nail. Every time the tip it fully depressed and I try to fire just one nail and it does not work. The tip is was also set fully to deep. Very frustrating when it fires in a different location than where I really nead the nail. I used OEM Paslode nails and a new fuel cell and a fully charged battery. I tried two units and they both went back to the store with the same problems. I will stick with my hose and compressor that is reliable.

Paslode claims the fuel cells may be bad and sent me new fuel and valves for N/C. I still had the exact same problems and gave up.

I am a GC in Breckenridge CO and thought this was the perfect tool for doing the punch list things that always come up. So I purchased one. Got it and tried to use it. Would not fully set nails by 1/2 ". E mailed Paslode tech sevices and they told me "I'm sorry you failed to read the information that was on the outside of the cardboard sleeve that surrounded the case that holds the tool. It stated in bold black lettering in English and in Spanish that: " Impulse tools are not recommended for use in altitudes of 5000 ft. or above." Nowhere in their discription does it mention this. So I guess I'm stuck with a big plastic hammer. Paslode lost my future business.

I tried single strips and double strips to no avail. 3. The unit that did function was good for about 5 out of 8 nails fired. 4. It will not drive into treated wood fully ( 1/4 " protrusions were common . 5. a tooless drive depth adjustment would help in time consumption ,( in soft spruce and similar woods it countersunk well ). 6. you cant bump fire and you must depress then wait for the fan to engauge before firing ( too slow ). 7. dont buy one , rent it .

Paslode markets this nailer as a "Cordless Utility Framing Nailer." "Versatile; can do a wide variety of jobs with one tool..." - This implies that you can use it for jobs other than rough framing. If you're doing any type of remodeling or exposed woodwork - i.e. siding, fascia boards, or decking where you don't want to damage the surface, you need a No-Mar contact tip, unless you don't mind putting four gouges around each nail head. Well, a no-mar tip is not included in the kit and you have to buy it as an accessory for $40. I don't know about you, but when I pay $400 for a nailer, I don't think it's fair to have to pay another $40 for something that should be there in the first place - especially since it defeats the purpose of having a "Utility" nailer. Every other brand of nailer I have purchased in the past has included a no-mar tip of some sort. I am very disappointed with this nailer to say the least, and it's going back...
