This is the greatest fleshlight for work, because you can set the thing down and pivot the head to where you need light. It's like having someone hold it for you. It will withstand alot of abuse. It is very bright, for a relatively long time. The only thing that I can complain about is the price of the bulbs.
Great utility!

I gave it 4 stars - 5 stars for its usefulness and 3 for its build quality. I have several cordless tools from different makes, so I'm not using up the batteries all the time like I'm supposed to from what I've read, but having this flashlight around helps me at least cycle through my DeWalt 12V batteries. The flashlight has a lightweight feel to it without the battery installed, so it clerly doesn't feel as "heavy duty" or solid as, let's say, a drill might feel, but I figure what should I expect? Maybe the yellow and black color scheme along with the DeWalt label makes me expect more? But, heck, it's only a flashlight! You can't vary the beam width as you can with a MagLite but you can pivot the head which has proven useful at least once. Lastly, I'm not quite sure how I ever got by without a flashlight in the shop! My final recommendation is that if you have a cordless kit from any make, get the matching accessory flashlight!

I already had 2 of these for 4 yrs. Bought these for additional locations and great price. Good design, rugged, flexible beam, easy to see, interchangeable rechargeable batteries.
I love it.

If you already have a dewalt 12v cordless tool - this flashlight is great. I always keep my backup batteries charged and I have good light whenever I need it.
br /
br /It's fairly well built and will provide great usable light for more than 30 minutes. The head of the flashlight rotates so that you can position the beam where you need it.
br /
br /Should it be cheaper? It used to sell for $ 34.00 and now costs $20.00.
br /
br /Sounds like a good deal to me

This is a cleverly designed and well built product which will make a valuable addition to your tool box, PROVIDED you already have a couple DeWalt or B&D 12v batteries (they are interchangeable). It would not make sense to buy a separate battery for it, as they cost about 2x as much as the light itself. These lights are also made for other voltages, including 9.6 and 14.4 v.I compared this light to a 2-D cell Magnalite which weighs about the same (1.5 lbs w/battery.) As one would expect given the difference in voltage (12v vs. 3v), the DeWalt appeared to be several times as bright as the Magnalite and has a beam 3-4x as wide.I only gave the light three stars because (1)It is overpriced, even w/ Amazon's discount (2) Replacement bulbs are also expensive, although they do include a spare, and (3) You cannot focus the beam - a wider "flood" beam would be preferable to the more intense spot for many applications. If all you want is a general-purpose lantern, there are several 6v dry cell units available which represent better value. However, this one will utilize your existing batteries & charger, and with its solid base and tilting capability can be configured to illuminate the typical work site better than most of its competitors.
Good flashlight, expensive for what you get

This flashlight works well for what I need. It is very bright. The pivoting head is handy. If you look at plastic flashlights most are way less expensive than this one. The switch is poor quality and only lasts about 10 months of daily use.

If you've already got the batteries from the Dewalt 12-volt drill, it makes sense to get the flashlight. I got this for a good price and it functions as you would expect a flashlight to. Nothing too fancy -- decent level of brightness. I'm not real fond of the function of the pivoting head -- you have to turn the head clockwise to hit specific pivot points, at which you would need to adjust the direction the flashlight was pointed in (as opposed to just ratching up and down on the same plane as I've experienced on other brands like the Porter Cable). It's not a problem but it's not the best design out there. Again, if you want to make the most use of your batteries, there aren't a whole lot of options.

It sure is nice having a flash light that I always know there is a fresh battery in. This is the case because I have multiple of the 12-volt DeWalt batteries and always keep one on the unplugged charger fully charged and ready to swap out for a dead battery. This flashlight is well balanced and feels nice in the hand and turns on and off easily with the thumb of the hand holding the light. My only complaint is that it eats the battery up pretty fast. I am unable to make a run to the outhouse and back without the flashlight going dead (or at least very dim). And I don't stay seated long. I end up turning it off while seated.

Seems more powerful than the original flashlight that came as a pkg with the drill. Nothing like having the pivoting head !

I've been using some form of the DEWALT 12 volt flashlight for the past decade. As I find the DEWALT 12 volt drill an excellent choice for residential commercial electrical work, the DW904 Pivoting Head Flashlight makes for a perfect companion for your lighting needs. It also provides a handy load to fully discharge the drill's Ni-Cad batteries allowing them to recharge to maximum efficiency!

br /A great supplementary device for all!

br /Update: My DEWALT flashlight took an accidental tumble from 8 feet high and a hard crash to a hardwood floor. Thought sure it was a goner but the unit came up shining bright! Tough little mama!

I was buying this as a replacement for the one I have. The new light is a better light than the one I have. My battery fits in this light better. The quality is great. If you need a long lasting and great quality light buy this one. I am very happy with this light. I have the drill and 2 batteries plus the charger. The light help when working outdoor and in dark places. This light is very bright and the battery last a long time with out having to be recharged. Need light this is it.

Very nice flashlight. As always with DeWalt, very well made. I've dropped this flashlight in my pool and numerous times on the floor and it still works perfeclty. I've had to replace the bulb after 3 years! long lasting bulbs as well. I recommend this flashlight very much

I would have given this product 4 or 5 stars until I read a certain review on this site. I was very happy with the performance of my DW904 12-Volt until it went dead on me a week ago. Just as this reviewer I speak of said, "Oh I'll just replace the bulb", but that didn't do it. Thinking that maybe the switch went bad I took the light apart and bypassed the switch but still no light. I promptly threw it in the trash in disgust because I really hadn't used it that much and I NEVER abused it. Even so I planned on buying another DW904 thinking that mine must have had a defect, but now after reading that another person has had the same problem with his, forget it. I'll probably order a Milwaukee flashlight for I had recently purchased their cordless 14.4 to replace the noisy 12 volt Dewalt I have. (The one that the flashlight came with)
