Description:
If you ever find the need to grind, cut, sharpen, polish, engrave, or to clean intricate parts, the Dremel Stylus Rotary Tool will get the job done. The Dremel 1100-01 is a unique handheld cordless rotary tool that utilizes the new lithium-ion battery technology. Once the 7.2-volt battery has been charged it can retain a charge for up to 18 months of non-use. But, I doubt this tool will be set aside for long. The variable speed tool, 5,000 - 25,000 RPM, can be used by homemakers, hobbyists and artists, to clean, sand, grind, cut, polish, drill and engrave. The soft pistol grip housing fits comfortably in the hand for outstanding balance and precision control. The docking station not only holds the Stylus when not in use but also recharges the battery to provide long-lasting performance. Some of the most commonly used quick change bits are included in a handy storage case. i--C. I've had several Dremel tools, both corded and cordless. My principal use has been woodcarving and scale miniatures. I bought this one on the basis of reviews, and I'm pleased, but...
br /First of all, the packaging is worthy of one of those excessive packaging awards. It consists of a kind of cardboard and plastic chastity belt, and you almost need another Dremel tool to open it.
br /Second, and more important, the selection of accessories is pretty mingy. As it that weren't enough, they don't even include all the collets you need to use the accessories they do give you. They suggest you buy them separately. Not good.
br /Using the tool made me feel better. It's light, quiet, fast, and feels a lot better in my hand than my old ones did. I like the thing, but if they'd spent on accessories what they wasted on packaging, I'd like it better.
Very handy!

This is one neat "LITTLE" tool. My first pleasant surprise was how smoothly it runs at top speed. If you are into doing super-miniature work, you will love this tool. I have a TurboCarver that spins 1/16 inch shafts at 400,000 rpm that really isn't much smoother than this Dremel. The ultra high speed TurboCarver is necessary for the very small and delicate detail work (like etching glass), but this Dremel really does a fine and faster job in places where the soft touch is not quite so necessary. I expect it to save much wear and tear on the TurboCarver which costs over ten times as much.
br /
br /Somebody commented on the use of collets by Dremel tools. I am in fundamental agreement with that person if your application requires quick change to tools with different shaft sizes, the 3-jaw chuck is the way to go. But, if you are using a variety of 1/16 inch tools at maximum speed the collet is a virtual necessity.

The Stylus is an excellent tool for the craftperson. I am building a dollhouse, and wish I'd had it 2 years ago when I started, rather than now when I'm nearly done. I've found endless uses for it, from widening doorways in my (1:12 scale) house to buffing shingles to fit for the roof.
br /
br /It's light weight, easy to maneuver into all sorts of tight places, and easy to grip. The grip is important to me as I have a disability and weak hands, but I've not ever experienced "grip fatigue" with this as I have with previous Dremels. And the fact that there is no cord means I don't have to worry about what the cord is dragging against as I get into tight places in my project.
br /
br /It's a terrific tool and I highly recommend it for anyone doing small scale work.

I finally replaced my old Original Dremel (cord and all) with the new Cordless Stylus Dremel. All I can say is, what took them so long to release this product! At first glance, you wonder how this new Dremel will fit in your hand. But as soon as you pick it up, it just feels right. It really gives a better control of the tool than the original "pen style". So far I have used it to sharpen my lawn mower blade, remove grout, and polish my silver cufflinks. Talk about versatility! My wife loved it so much for her crafts that I had to buy another one for her. I highly recommend this to everyone that loves to take on projects.

I've been a modeler for 40 years and have bought just about every trendy tool known to man, but its hard to find anything that is more ergonomic or useful for the modeler than the new Dremel 1100-01 Stylus. It fits comfortably in your hand (left or right)and offers execptional control for delicate work. Variable speed adjustments are smooth and very linear, which allows a wide useful range. If there is a shortcoming it would have to be torque. In order to get sufficient torque for some drilling operations, the speed has to be higher than one would normally use. However, at the top end, there is plenty of torque for cutting or grinding tasks.
br /
br /Overall, the tool is well worth the price. All of my older Dremel motors are gathering dust and will probably go on the block at the next swap meet. My new Stylus is what I reach for first.

I am a professional calligrapher and engraver. I use several different tools and began with the Dremel Engraver. I'm still adapting to this new Stylus and in some cases find the pistol grip somewhat daunting esp when engraving calligraphy with downstrokes or "toward" my hand. The grip limits these motions somewhat. But the tool can easily be turned upside down as the instructions say and this problem becomes negligible. I see the tool runs abt 1-2 hrs on one charge out of the recharger stand. So it is prudent to keep it in the base charger while not in use. Last, the lightness (weight) and cordless features are wonderful! I feel like I'm not "teathered" to anything anymore...LOL.

I wanted this bad boy as soon as I saw it in the store. It maybe dainty but don't let the size fool you it is no girlie tool and even if it is so what, it is about time they make something for us too! I was sick of my work being messed up because I had to manipulate around a big cord, or because my hand went numb in the middle of a scroll and I couldn't stop. Now I have a tool that is no heavier than an oversized pen and I don't have anything in my way with a lot less vibration. If it doesn't work one way I just flip it upside down and and come in from the other side without the worry of the cord tangling.

br /I saw the commercial for the Dremel Cordless Stylus on TV, and it immediately went on my Wish list. I was lucky -- I got it for my birthday, and am I pleased with it!
br /
br /Not only is the cordless feature wonderful, but it is lightweight and has a pistol grip-design. I've experienced little hand fatigue while using it, compared to the cramps I'd get holding my old wired Dremel tool. And does this puppy deliver the torque! I was surprised at the power it displayed in cutting through steel--and I only had it set halfway up the power scale!
br /
br /Its shaft is a bit smaller than the wired Dremel, so when I needed to attach a small drillbit to it, I just switched the adjustable drill chuck from my regular Dremel, and it worked perfectly.
br /
br /I can also see applications for use in sanding hard-to-reach places, like refinishing scrollwork or carved wood, or in buffing small pieces.
br /
br /Yes, it is a bit more pricey, but in the long run I know I'll be happy with the investment.
br /
br /I wonder if I'll ever use my old hard-wired Dremel again.

The stylus is a very useful little tool for work in the home and doing automotive modifications. If only it lasted. Seems the charging stand, when used as directed, as a cradle for the dremel which keeps it constantly charged seems to destroy the tool's seemingly delicate Li-Ion battery. On top of the heat that the tool generates when it is running, my Stylus - first and second one, only lasted for about 4 months of occasional use (i would say, maybe once a week, for about 5 or 6 minutes). First one i bought would not stay on for more than about 45 seconds - this is after the initial charging period- and then would not turn on at all, returned it got another one, this one worked great until recently when it started doing the OFF after 45 seconds bit, which is hit or miss if it will even turn on. All signs point to a dead Li-Ion battery, after only a few months. Which would stand to reason that if the charging dock stays hot, and the thing gets too hot to hold after about 3 minutes of use, it will destroy its battery very quickly.
br /
br /Excellent idea, powerful product but still needs a little work. Will be calling support at 1-800-437-3635, hopefully they will work with me.

The Stylus was designed by a genius. Perfectly engineered, and amazingly useful. I'm actually reaching for my thesaurus for more adjectives because I can't think of enough good things to say about the Stylus. It has everything you could ever want in a rotary tool PLUS it's lightweight, ergonomic, cordless, comes with a charging stand/bit holder! If I were an engineer, I imagine that this is what I'd measure all of my accomplishments to. Like, "Well, that's a pretty awesome design I came up with there. My boss loves it, my coworkers think I'm the coolest pencil-pusher this side of the Mississippi, and Popular Science wants to give me next month's cover.... BUT, it's no Dremel Stylus." And then I'd probably cry.
br /
br /I can't think of a single way this design could be improved. Lets's see... Light-weight? Check. Long-lasting battery? Check. Ergonomic? Check. Aesthetically Pleasing? Check. One-Hand operation? Check. Easy bit-swapping? Check. Comes with enough bits to confuse average-Joe Nuclear Physicist? Check. Has case that doesn't take up entire work-bench? Check. Sounds like a Boeing 727? Check. Scares the cat out of the room? Check.
br /
br /Seriously. It's that cool. The only gripe I'll even allow anyone is that it doesn't spin fast enough for... something. I can't imagine what, but I'm guessing there's something. I know there's a 35 year-old in his parent's basement somewhere who can dream up something that it doesn't spin fast enough for, so I'll leave that part open-ended.
br /
br /Bottom-line: Until somebody comes up with a better battery than the Lithium-Ion (and it drops to reasonable price, and doesn't emit radiation that turns thumbs into big-toes), this is the best of the best. Believe it.

I've been using my Stylus for about 8 months now, and I can't remember how I got by without it! The compact, cordless design fits in your hand perfectly and is the ideal tool for working with small and delicate materials. I use mine primarily for small-scale modeling (miniature figures, buildings, etc), and work with metal, plastics, and wood. My Stylus handles all the drilling, cutting, grinding, and sanding I used to do by hand; I can now finish projects in a fraction of the time! I'm amazed by the power Dremel has packed into this little tool and the battery life is excellent (I've used it all day without placing it back into its docking/charging stand, but it does usually live there). The Stylus is vastly superior to a standard rotary tool if you need it to fit in small places, work at different angles, or don't want a power cord to get in the way. If you're thinking about picking this up, just do it- you won't be sorry.

This is a great addition to any tool set. It fits comfortably in your hands and can be used for very fine detail work or work where precision is a must. My first task when I got it was to grind and cut out some epoxy putty on a wall right next to some trim (don't ask). I was concerned that my older corded dremel would make this task nearly impossible with its shape and the cord tugging at the tool at just the wrong moments. With this tool I felt completely in control the entire time I used it. It had more than enough power to both grind (using a drum sander and a grinder) and cut using one of the new EZ Lock wheels (wide diameter, finally). I was able to get complete control over the tool and never had to fight it to get exactly the result I wanted.
br /
br /This is a great evolution to the Dremel design and I would highly recommend it for light to medium use. Heavy cutting I would still leave to the corded units due to their higher RPM and torque.
br /
br /Also, buy the Dremel Chuck. It will save you tons of time unscrewing and switching collets.
br /
br /Overall the stylus is a great tool where fine control and precision are required. And it looks like a phaser from classic Star Trek. How can you go wrong?

I used this tool for for cutting metal for jewelry that I make - it is very well designed and very comfortable to use. The charger stand is attractive, keeps everything organized and handy, and grips a work table well - works like a cordless phone charger, just drop it in.
br /
br /After 30 minutes of continuous use, the device starts to heat up to the point of being uncomfortable to the touch. After about an hour of use, the battery was dead. This is perfectly fine if you are doing light or medium projects, but for heavier users like me - back to the cord we go...

I like that it doesn't weigh a lot, and it's comfortable to use, but the battery doesn't hold a charge for as long as I'd like, so some of the filing and drilling that I'm doing in jewelry fabrication (20 ga. metals) is taking multiple sessions, while the battery recharges, for a single piece of jewelry.

I work on electronics and robotics projects and this dremel tool is fantastic. It stays charged, works at lower speeds, and feels great in your hand. It takes a little effort to change between tools, especially if the shaft size changes significantly, but it's still great. I took it to school and used it two days straight modifying components for 135 students. Didn't miss a beat. A fellow teacher tried it and liked it so much he went and bought one for himself.

I build model cars for a hobby, and have always had some type of Dremel tool on hand, but until the Stylus came along, none were just right for me. They were either too big and powerful for the detail work I do, or the battery would not hold a charge long enough. And few would slow down to a speed suitable for plastics. The Stylus, with its long-life battery and variable speeds, is perfect for plastic modeling. The shape is easier to hold, also, and allows more fine control. The handy charging stand is also great, and it automatically shuts off when the battery is fully charged, something I wish my electric razor would do. The unit is quieter than others I have used, and it has a precision feel to it that gives me confidence when working with close tolerances. I've been modeling for 50 years, and finally there is a tool that meets my needs. It was worth the wait.

I bought this dremel with my tax refund. I had wanted one for a while and have used them before, though it has been many years. My fiancee found it easy to use as well and he has no tool experience. I wish the battery lasted for two hours. I used it the first time to remove some sharp gouges out of the metal on a walker, strip the paint off of it so we could repaint it, and added holes in the metal for a basket. It did all of this with minimal fuss, though I do recommend getting an additional attachment kit. This is the most used tool in my tool box now.

At first when I got this dremel, I thought this is just no good, however for certain applications, this is an amazing little tool. It does not have the power to do heavy duty applications, but for lighter duty work, this tool is actually pretty comfortable, it is just a matter of rethinking the old dremel stereotype, no more hand cramping for me. The battery is long lasting and the charging cradle is convenient.

I just bought one of these. So far, I've only used the etching and cutting head, but overall I'm pleased with it.
br /
br /THE GOOD:
br /
br /* POWER: The run time and torque are impressive ... using the cutting wheel on max speed, I'm able to saw through just over 2 dozen #10 steel screws, at about 10 sec apiece (and plenty of showering sparks), before the battery runs down. For a cordless stylus, that's all out torture, but it gets it done - although it does get pretty warm under that kind of abuse.
br /
br /* COMFORT: This unit fits nicely in the hand, and is ambidexterous.
br /
br /THE QUIRKS:
br /
br /* CHARGE SENSOR: Under extremely heavy use (see above), the stylus gets warm. When placed into the charger while still warm, the charger appears to get confused and think the unit has just been charged - and refuses to charge it further. Clearly, its smart charging technology is not very smart. Anyway, one way around that is to pop the stylus in the freezer for 10 mins (to speed-cool), and THEN put it in the charger. It works.
br /
br /NITS:
br /
br /* DEFAULT ACCESSORIES: The default kit is stingy on attachments - and some of the attachments it does comes with can't be used out of the box unless you buy additional parts. That's annoying (hence the 4 stars instead of 5).
br /
br /* CHARGE TIME: Only the heaviest users will notice, but this unit's charger needs 3 hours to fully charge the stylus. My new Li-Ion Makita drill charges in only 15 mins, so 3 hrs for something far smaller seems rather pokey. I also wish this thing had a detacheable battery pack, so that you could swap packs while the other re-charges - and not have to toss out the whole unit when the built-in battery finally dies.
br /
br /Recommended, despite a few quirks.

I have been so pleased with this little stylus that I'm about ready to give away my corded Dremel tool. I have very little use for it any more. The lithium battery holds an extremely long charge and the tool is strong enough to accomplish nearly any task in one charge.
br /
br /The only thing I can say needs a bit more work is the cradle/docking station. First, it's a bit light and slides around wherever it's placed. Also, the unit doesn't dock with the charging plug as convincingly as I would like. Although there is a light on the back of the dock that tells you when it's in place, I'm never sure whether it's completely locked into the dock, and you can never be sure that it will stay that way once you leave the room. (Indeed, when I went to check on the light just now, I discovered that it had worked its way out of position somehow and was not charging until I twisted it slightly. Point made.)
br /
br /It's still a great product. I like it well enough that I gave a similar unit to my brother and his wife last Christmas and last I heard, they were equally thrilled with it.

First time I used it, I worked for literally HOURS before the appliance became hot and eventually turned itself off briefly. However, by then vitually all of my work was finished! I own this tool and bought one for my Dad, too. It is small, easy to hold, and has an incredible battery life. As hard as I might look, I can not find a single negative about this new version of the Dremel.
Excellent Product

The most important point of having this item, is the ease of use on small jobs without having a cord attached to it.

Worked Great--Once

It worked fine--once. While trying to remove the brush tool, the collet
br /nut was so tight it wouldn't come off. But the shaft lock button did, and a small spring popped out to God knows where. So after using this tool just once, it sits here, with the brush tool in place, worthless unless I want to brush something else. Sitting next to it is the 150 tool
br /"All-Purpose Accessory Kit." This product, made in Mexico, should be declared an illegal immigrant and kicked back over the border.
