I ordered this tool based on my past experiences with Malco tools. Once again, they have delivered a great tool at a great price and it performs flawlessly. I have used it on both James Hardie fiber cement siding, 1/4" Hardibacker as well as Hardibacker 500 (1/2"). It shears through all of them with ease. I have used it with both a cordless drill and also with a corded drill. Both work well, with the corded one being a little faster.

br /I would wholeheartedly recommend them.

This shear is an attachment for a cordless drill. I attached it to a 18 volt DeWalt. The DeWalt has plenty of power to run the shear. The weight of the drill and shear is heavy, about like a recipicating saw and is front heavy. The pluses are that you can cut fiber cement without extention cords and the dust of using a saw.

This works very well, so well that I did not use my saw for anything except plunge cuts around windows. Absolutely no dust at all. Very satisfied. This is very much a quality product. Anyone putting up fiber cement siding should have one. I had no problems at all with this and I expect it to last for some time yet.

This product does what it is supposed to do - but -! The main housing broke on mine after relatively little use!!!. After taking it apart I realized that the pot metal main housing where the axle for the bottom jaw resides is paper thin. If it has very much stress at all it is bound to break. In my opinion this product may be good for small do-it-yourself projects but not for commercial work. If you have to depend on a tool like this go ahead and spend the money for something like the Pacific Shear # SS424 which is what I replaced this with.

This item connected easily to my drill and seemed securely fastened. It is light in weight, so cuts on surfaces that are not horizontal work well. It is eaasy to follow a straight line cut with this tool. Arc cuts are possible, with gentle curves, but don't plan on doing any pattern cutting, which is probably true of any of these style cutters.
br /
br /Definitely a great and well-executed tool, and it is nice that it can swap between a cordless drill for remote cuts, and back to a corded drill for bench cutting.
br /
br /There is no flying dust from the cutting process, although there is a slight amounnt of waste (1/4" or so) from the cut. Be sure to practice cutting along a scribed mark on some scrap before using on finished work, and think before you cut to be sure to leave the waste on the correct side, away from your measured piece.

First of all, Amazon was great in sending out this product rapidly.
br / The attachment is good quality and easily attached to our drill. After a few practice cuts, we have been using the tool to successfully cut Hardy panels and siding. At times it is hard to see the cut line due to the siding debris that is being produced, but it is dust-free and and can be easily scooped away as the cut is being made. We are very pleased with the attachment and feel that it is an extremely cost-effective alternative to purchasing an entire cutting shear tool. I can't think of any reason that I would buy anything other than this attachment.

I just got this from Amazon and when I started using it, I was laughing with joy. It makes cutting cement board almost as easy as using scissors. I've only had straight-line cuts, and as other reviewers note, visibility of the cutting line is sometimes obscured. But just stop cutting and remove the debris.

br /I attached mine to a Dewalt 120V 3/8 drill .... easy and fast even if the attaching brackets at first seemed a little questionable.
br /
br /I've got a whole house to do ... so I'm only hoping I don't have bad luck with breakage like one of the reviewers.

br /So far, I'm glad I saved the hundred bucks over a different unit.

I love this tool since you can use a drill you already have. It cuts fiber-cement board very well with no dust low noise. I tried it on some PVC lattice but doesn't work. Whether it's siding your'e doing or tile board this tool is a must have.

I couldn't believe how great it worked I attached it to my drill in a few minutes and turned on my drill and thought this isn;t going to do anything as I watched the cutting head barely move. BUT I put it to a piece of hardiboard and I cut it in seconds...I used a speed square to keep my cuts straight and the shears really keep down the dust, great buy...

Malco TSHD Turboshear Heavy Duty This attachment is easy to install (and remove) on any type of power drill. I used it on a 14V cordless drill and effortlessly sheared Hardie Plank siding. This tool will even cut a scribed line and tab cut-outs around windows doors.

Being a commercial contractor I put most of the tools I use to a seroius test. I am very impresed with the initial use of this tool. Granted, any tool tells its tale over time but my crew and I cut over 300 linear feet of 1/2 inch hardibacker today without a single problem. I.m not in the siding business so I can't speak for them. However, If you're a tile setter and hate using saws, grinders, or whatever to cut material I would recommend this. I especialy like that you can shave a close 1/8 inch at the work area without any dust if you need to. The picture they give you with a cordless drill is cheesy. I would use a good 1/2 inch plug in drill or an 18 volt DeWalt (my cordless of choice) for best results. We have 66 more showers to do. I plan to burn out this thing out before the job is done. If it makes 1500 linear feet of 1/2 inch hardibacker I'll update with the results.

I'm one of the few remaining "old school" setters that likes to use cement board in leu of polyiso or Ditra. Especially for shower enclosure wall and ceiling applications. It has always been a major pain to cut to size 1/2" Hardibacker, but these shears definately take the sting out of the task. They really do work!! I gave them a 4 star only because they don't make tight radius cuts so well. You can do it if you work very slow and controlled but they chew up the edge of the board pretty bad. Overall though they are a great addition to my grip.

The Turbo Shear attaches quickly and easily and does a very good job at cutting fiber cement siding. I've seen some other reviews stating that they cut 1/2", I do not think this tool is intended to cut that thick of board.
br /
br /The main draw back as stated by others is that you cannot cut a very sharp arch. Also this tool does create SOME dust, but it is very slight and falls to the ground - not into a dust storm as with a saw. The other slight con is that it can tear the corner on the exit of a cut. But this also has to do with the way the board is held while cutting. If you are cutting solo expect to have something to firmly secure the end you are cutting off. Fiber Cement planks are heavy and quite flimsy when laying flat. Another tip is cut with the back of the board facing up, comes out cleaner.

I bought this tool to begin the process of replacing all of the siding on my house. I have a setup on the radial arm saw with a dry masonry blade that creates lots of dust. It works fine for the 1" thick trim boards, but it won't cut the long angles in the Hadrie Plank for the roof pitch on the ends of the house. I had tried the same setup with a circular saw and custom guide and made lots of dust while cutting the Hardie plank.
br /I attached this tool to a Dewalt 18 volt drill which had plenty of power to run it. Attaching was simple and obvious without the instructions.
br /The first project involved cutting 4 by 8 foot sheets of Hardie siding for the porch roof. This tool had no problem cutting a 4 foot long line with a single hand holding the drill/cutter. It was fairly easy to stay right on the line as the tool removed the material on the waste side of it. The best part was the lack of dust.
br /The edge did have a slightly rough appearance, but in this case it was covered by trim so it won't be visible. It shouldn't be an issue for the 8-1/4" plank.

I bought this hoping it would work as described and found out it did. I was looking at electric models but didn't want to pay $300.00 for one job. This product cuts well, just cut your product from the back side for a smooth cut. It even cuts small 1.5 inch pieces with ease. i recommend this product and the price isn't bad either.

I'd had this in my "wish list" for a long time since I knew we had a siding project coming up at some point. Well, the point came and I really didn't want to invest the money in yet another tool that I would probably only need once and then have to store, but I discovered that none of the local rental stores had anything like fiber cement shears for rent. I most emphatically did not want to use the saw for this, I've been that route and the dust clouds created when sawing fiber cement siding are impressive to say the least.
br /
br /I first saw this tool mentioned on a forum in which I occasionally lurk and which is frequented by many professional contractors. They almost unanimously gave it a thumbs up, preferring it even to dedicated shears. Based on that I decided to give it a go, and I'm glad I did! Absolutely *no* dust, cuts a nice clean line, and even when I had a piece that I had to take an extra 1/2" off of it performed flawlessly. I did tend to get a tiny little chip on the exit cuts but as that side is covered by the next plank in my case it is not an issue. I believe this is probably more due to my technique and unfamiliarity with the tool in any case.
Works Great!

Cuts hardie board planks with very little dust! I used it for a "do it yourself" type of project that I had, and was very pleased with the results.
