What a great purchase. I have been wanting this kit for a long time and finally found a great price on Amazon. Since purchasing this kit, I have built birdhouses, toy boxes for the grandkids, and set of Adirondack chairs for my patio. Great tools at a great price. I ordered them on a Wednesday and received them on Saturday.

I've begun to see that the cordless tools are initially great however the need to buy more batteries allows the company to make more money off of you. I bought a Dewalt 18 volt 4-pack kit with hammerdrill, light, reciprocating saw, and circular saw. I used the kit (mostly the drill)about 10 times before I began to notice that the batteries didn't hold their charge for very long. Finally after about 15 charges, the batteries were completely dead. A friend of mine bought the same 4-pack kit about a year after I got mine. He had the same experience. His batteries lasted about 15-20 charges and then completely died. These batteries are $90 a piece. Dewalt gave me the run around that it could be the charger or that I was doing something wrong. My father who is an electrical engineer has the same kit as well...and guess what....the same thing happened to his batteries. This indicates a serious problem with their quality control. the tools worked great for the limited amount of time we got out of them, but you shouldn't have to go through that. Buy Rigid and register the tools online and you have lifetime battery warranty! Dewalt couldn't have been more unhelpful. Really bad customer service and i'll buy the rigid brand next time or Milwaukee. You just can't beat the Ridgid warranty! Save your money everyone.

I have wanted a combo cordless bundle for a long time and although it is more than I need it is rugged and I plan on it lasting for a long time. The drill has plenty of power to drive a 2" screw into a solid block of pine with no flinching. The variable tourque settings save many a stripped head on the driven screw! The circular saw zips through a 2x4 with no hesitation with angle and depth options not always available. The flash light has a broad - bright beam and the recip saw is good to go.

I've had my DeWalt 18v kit for over five years now, and use it a lot. All the tools are well balanced, considering their fairly hefty weight, which makes them easy to use. The drill is awesome: three power ranges, adjustable spli clutch, nice grip ... and enough torque to snap you around if you're not watching what you're doing. The skill saw is very handy. It's replaced my corded Makita for all but thicker stock simply because the DeWalt is easier to handle and I don't worry about cutting my own cord (haven't we all done that once?). The reciprocating saw is powerful, and I appreciate the quick and easy blade change. The flashlight? ... well, I can't say as I've used it more than a couple of times. You're really buying the three tools, and at $379, they're worth it.

My crummy drill died a few weeks ago and I had to replace it. It was the 2nd drill to die on me during my adult home-owner life and really, I'm not THAT active in the drilling world. A friend had always sworn by DeWalt tools, having been a cabinet-maker for years. I had been coveting the reciprocating saw for awhile anyway....and that little circular saw looked like it would come in handy. So after a bit of "But the tools ARE kind of expensive (compared to crummy ones I'd had die on me)" I broke down and just ordered the kit. LOVE IT!! It is sooooo good to use tools that actually work like they're supposed to! The drill has enough power to get all the way through a 2x4--Imagine! Using REAL tools is a whole different ballgame and I'm very pleased with the performance of these. They feel good in my hands, have the power I expect, battery life seems pretty good, charging time is good. I'm happy.
Wow! What a disappointment.

Plastic and fit fit was awful. The battery would not drop out of the tools, you had to pry it loose. Motor brushes seemed to create excessive sparks, which to me mean short lived motors. Case tool slots seemed to be for different configuration of tools. Amazon took it back, thankfully. They are great.

My tool set arrived today. I have not yet had the opportunity to use the items (batteries are charging). I am reviewing the appearance of the tools. Upon oppening the box, it was apparent that these had been used and returned. The reciprocating saw had black scuff marks on it and 3 of the 4 tools were out of their plastic bags. Amazon was great to provide a discount and gave me 30 days to try the tools to make sure they work okay. Just make sure you get what you pay for. If it says "new" then it should be...

Mainly because it become a last generation tools set:
br /1. Recip Saw / Circular Saw ate up battery too fast, very common to every brand of cordless tools (that use Ni-Cad battery). If you're considering to buy new cordless tools then go Lithium-Ion.
br /2. Amazon offer best price around ($290), but consider extra battery is not cheap (combo came w/ 2 batteries but not quite convenience to swap around for different tools). Sears HD offering much higher price tag.
br /3. Included circular saw blade is 18 tooth, pretty useless except to cut the un-wanted woods. You need 24 tooth saw blade at least to get the smooth cut.
br /4. No metal cutting blade included (Recipro Saw).
br /
br /Don't get me wrong, Dewalt quality is great but Ni-Cad tools show age and will be replaced by Lithium-Ion tools eventually. (Look at the history of PC industry)
br /
br /If you're short of budget and ok with Ni-Cad, then this combo set is for you. Dewalt also get 6 pcs combo Ni-Cad set for great price.
br /
br /Power tools are always heavy, I think the industry pay little attention to small guy like me.
br /
br /I'm neither a professional nor handyman, bought the tools and just try to save the labor cost to fix/upgrade my house.
br /Today I ordered Makita LXT601 from Amazon (best price around), and will write a review after I tested it.

This set of tools has plenty of power. Each tool is light weight, balanced and easy to use. The drill in particular has more power than my corded drill and is a pleasure to use. We have another cordless drill and saw of another top brand, but the DeWalt tools are better and cost less. The battery packs last longer as well.

I have been using dewalt cordless tools for years. I have had the same cordless drill for about 6 years. While it is showing signs of age you must realize that I am a contractor and USE it HARD every day. It has taken several hard falls off of ladders and off of a roof or 3. It still works great. If you want a durable, long lasting set of tools you should consider dewalt.

With this four pack kit I can do work without power cords running everywhere. The charger is the only thing that requires a power cord. By the time you get the power cords and your power tools out, you can have some of the work done using battery. I have used the four pack kit to do my work for thirteen years. This includes contract work and subcontract work.

Great value--I was able to buy this set on sale for $200. Yes, it's "old" battery tech, but for most of us that's fine. Good set, great price.
br /
br /One note--this flashlight doesn't fit the case well (the case was made for the "snake" light available in other sets). However, that's such a minor point...and really the ONLY negative to this set.
br /
br /Least expensive way to get into the 18V DeWalt tool family.

This is a very nice set of 18V tools. Only downside is they don't fit in the case very well (the case is made for a "snake light" and the tools just don't fit properly). That's about the only negative though...
br /
br /All tools are very nice...but watch for a sale on this (I was able to pick up the set for $200 at Home Depot--at that price, it's an amazing value.)

br /This is the best way to get into the 18V DeWalt family.

The three piece Dewalt combo tool's are excellent, lots of power and very comfortable to use. Paid $286 and the next week Lowes had same kit at $199. Even at the higher price they are great.

I bought this set primarily because Dewalt has a reputation for having good durable tools.
br /
br /The first thing I did was to charge up the batteries to test the tools. I started with the drill. The first thing I wanted to see was how well the variable speed was. But from zero to about half of full speed, it speed control circuitry would squeal very noticeably.
br /
br /Another thing that I noticed was that when you let your finger off the trigger, there was also a very pronounced "clunk" every time. I think it is the result of the gear teeth hitting each other hard when everything stops instantly when power to the motor of turned off. All gears require some play. Typically, with any gears, the "better" the gears are matched, the less this effect (clunking). In the case of this drill, the effect was considerably worse than expected.
br /
br /Finally, the chuck is a somewhat unique design and loosen hold on the drill bit by itself at times, especially on the smaller sizes.
br /
br /Since this set was not inexpensive and out of concern that the above symptoms could be signs that these tools could be short lived, I decided not to take the chance and returned them. Since I wasn't going to keep this set, I did not test the other tools.
br /
br /Shortly afterward, I found Bosch CPK51-18 5 Piece Kit 18V Drill/Driver, Circular Saw, Reciprocating Saw, Impact Driver, Flashlight for only $18.00 more at Lowe's. Initially, I felt that the DeWalt tools were very well made, but the Bosch tools seem even more so as well as appearing considerably more sophisticated.

Thought I would save a few bucks, wrong. The drill burnt up the first time I tried to use it. I really didn't use any of the other tools. I ended up returning in and buying new. Costomer service was good, I was able to reach them by phone easily, and they covered the shipping cost to return it. It's unfortunate that it didn't work better, it would have saved some money. I don't feel it's worth it any more, but in the end I didn't lose anything.
