I recently acquired this at a national chain store. (I hadn't seen it on Amazon at that time, and I needed it *now* - but it would have been a better buy on Amazon if I could have spared a couple of days.)
br /
br /The DC988KA hammer drill is great, and I've reviewed that separately. Great torque - it feels like it has more than either of my two aging corded drills! Take some time to practice with it if this is your first cordless drill. I found it had enough power to strip Phillips heads until I learned how to regulate it better.
br /
br /The temptation with the hammer drill is to use it for *everything*, but there are some jobs for which the impact driver will just be a better choice. I haven't tried taking off auto wheels with it yet, but it looks like it will handle it.
br /
br /This kit includes a contractor bag which is fairly roomy, with six open outside compartments and an inner elastic one. I was initially disappointed, since I prefer metal cases, but this has turned out to be very useful to collect all the other junk one takes along, as well as the two tools and batteries. The outside compartments work well for little things like locks and a cell phone. It's fairly sturdy.
br /
br /Overall, recommended. If you are going to buy just a cordless drill and work it hard enough to justify an 18 volt unit, this is a good buy. If you have the money, a four-piece kit may be a better choice, but it will be about twice the price of this deal, and you may have to hunt for one with an impact driver. So far this has been a good choice for me.

I have been using the 18v dewalt hammer drill since it came out on the market, and even though this is my 3rd one, will continue to use them. It got daily use on the jobsite until I bought this combo...
br /
br /The impact driver is fantastic!! Will drive a 4 1/2" deck screw through 2 2x4's and then bury the head, no problem. The drill now sits in the bag more days than not, and only gets used for it's intended purpose, drilling.
br /
br /This kit ought to extend the life of both tools, as I use them anyway, and for about the same price as it would have cost me to buy just the drill.

This kit is offered at the suggested special pricing by DEWALT. With the shipping, it actually cost more than the local Home Depot sold them for, including taxes. But the Depot no longer can get this combo kit. So the selling point isn't the "special" price, but the special availability. Shipping was via USPS, with no choice for other carriers. That means tracking isn't practical. The kit arrived in a reasonable time. I would buy from this seller again. The hammerdrill and impact driver are the best: light, powerful, comfortable in the hand; batteries charge quickly and are so light! How nice not to have to switch between a drill bit and a driver bit in the same drill over and over again!

This power pack of two drills was recommended to me at a lumber yard. The manager of the store told me how fast using these were when driving long screws into decks. Screws that take the place of lag bolts and can be purchased in very long lengths if needed. The impact wrench built in to the driver is remarkable and fast. The other drill can be use for drilling, or driving if desired. Everything comes in a bag, making it very handy.

You are living in the dark ages if you are not using an impact driver for sinking all screws. We finished building the concrete forms for a shop house using 3" galvanized deck screws. The 18v impact driver can sink 4 screws in the time it takes the 18v drill to sink 1. We are also using 6" timberlock screws on this project and it is amazing how fast the impact driver can run them in. Buy an impact driver - your clients will thank you for the reduced billing time on all of your jobs.

I use Dewalt cordless tools exclusively. I've tried others and keep coming back to the yellow ones. This one in particular has the best hammer drill they offer. It is the steel chuck model. The impact driver is the real reason I bought this kit. It drives drywall screws in a second. If you screw down a lot of plywood or Hardi-backer this is the tool. Don't use the drill ever again. This impact speeds up the process by 2 times. I work in the trades and this is the one for the job.Do the math, if you need a new battery for your existing drill its 85 bucks so spend 300 and get 2 new batteries and 2 drills a charger and bag. Duh!

I've never had an impact driver before, ahd have found that it is even more useful than the drill. The batteries last a long time between charges, and the units are very powerful. It's much less expensive to buy them through Amazon than at Home Depot.

I am very happy with this set.
br / - The bag is better than the plastic toolboxes
br / - The impact driver drives screws better and easier than a regular drill and gives the user more control
br / - I think that DeWalt's battery-powered hammerdrill cannot be beat amongst its peers.
br /
br /I think you will be very happy if you buy this set.
