I've been using this kit heavily to finish a basement room. I did some shopping around originally to upgrade my old 9.6 V cordless. I had narrowed it down the Dewalt DC720KA, the Milwaukee 18v compact, or the BDF142 when I came upon this kit. I never used an impact driver before this, but I discovered all the pros now do their screw driving with these. I'm glad I decided to give it a try!

Impact Driver: I will never drive wood screws with a drill again! Significantly less pressure is required to keep the phillips bit in contact with the screw head. I've driven 3" wood screws all week and not a single stripped head. It can install a fastener in tight places where a drill or hammer/nail just can't go. Superior torque will bury the screw (head and all) as deep in the wood as you want to go. I will use this more than any other tool in the kit. It is a little beast!

Drill: Good combination of power and speed. Enough to push a 1 1/4" self feeding bit through 3 1/2" of pressure treated lumber the high torgue setting. 5/8" self feeding bits eat through studs in a flash on the high speed setting. It is light like a cordless tool should be, and has the best power/weight ratio of any cordless by far. It comes with a quality chuck and plenty of torque. I think the drill is slightly better than the compact 18v Milwaukee and just a shade behind the Dewalt DC720KA which are both fine products.

Light: Has four convenient head angle adjustments from 0 degrees to about 110 degrees and a strap for hanging. Not a primary reason to buy this kit, but it's come in really handy for me.

Kit positives: Nice compact case has room for drill bits and accessories. Batteries do charge in 15 minutes. These tools have serious power. The combo of the drill and impact driver is unbeatable at this price. You would spend twice this to get the equivalent from another manufacturer. All three of the tools are a pleasure to use. The led light on the drill and impact driver does come in handy when you are working in dark corners.

Kit negatives: Run time might not be enough for heavy duty users. Not a problem for me; quick charge time makes up for it. I can use the impact drive all day on two full battery charges. Most of the black on these tools is rubber except for the raised Makita logo, which is paint. I've jammed the impact driver into some tight places which has caused some of that paint to scratch off. You can buy belt clips for these tools off e-bay which is only a minor inconvenience.

Overall: Considering what you get for the price, this is a five star kit.

Awesome little tools!

First off, I'm a professional fabricator, and i've been typically really hard on my tools, especially cordless tools, but these have far exceeded my expectations. I bought this setup when i was in a jam, my heavy duty 18v Milwuakee crapped out after only 2mos of service, and only a week back from its first warranty repair (I'm no longer a milwuakee fan, sadly). Well, needing to finish a project for monday, and stuck looking for a new driver/drill on a saturday night, I picked up the combo kit at a Home Depot minutes before closing, figuring it would get me through the project, and the impact driver might come in handy for some light duty projects later on.

Well I was amazed after working with these for 4 mos solid. So small yet so powerful, and far more rugged than i would have expected for their light weight and plastic-y feel. And wow, did i say they are small? I mean i can put the impact driver in the side pocket on my cargo shorts, or back pocket of my carhartts and comfortably climb a ladder like that. They seriously lighten my load when I'm lugging a bag of tools to a gig outside the shop, too.

The only drawback I've found is an entirely acceptable compromise for the light weight and easy handling, which is short battery life between charges. But Makita makes up for this by including a sophisticated and fast charger.

In short, this works really great for the sort of work that cordless tools do well for; tough intermittent tasks where access is tight. Sure it doesn't have all of the brawn of some of the full-size makita 18v line, but really when i need that sort of power, I'll want to be using something Pneumatic or AC-driven.

Buy it if you need a lightweight tool for intermittent use. If you need something to replace a corded/pneumatic tool out in the field, you might want to bump up to the full size (lxt) line.

The new LiOn driver usually runs near two hundred by itself. Add the impact driver that goes for close to this price AND include the spotlight and you definitely have a winner.

I've used the driver myself and it is a joy to use. It is very lightweight and the batteries charge in 15 minutes. So even if I'm using the drill full time, I can't run out of juice.

I purchased this tool to replace a severely aged Dewalt 18v drill/driver. I build cabinets and needed a drill that weighed less than my old Dewalt boat anchor, so I purchased the lightest serious tool I could find, this Makita.
br /
br /The drill:
br /- excellent ergonomics, very light weight, excellent balance, excellent run time per charge (especially given the 1.5 amp/hour battery rating), power to spare for normal usage.
br /- The LED light is excellent, and the fact that it stays on for a few seconds after the trigger is released is even better.
br /- I change bits a lot while working and have had no problems whatsoever with the chuck.
br /- My only very minor gripe is that the trigger isn't quite as smooth as my old Dewalt...it is not as easy to finesse small screws as I would like. I imagine this will improve over time, if not then wax, lithium lube or graphite will fix it.
br /
br /Impact driver:
br /- I didn't purchase the kit specifically for this tool, but it was a handy addition. Same basic comments as above, except that the trigger seems less sticky.
br /- Just to see what would happen I clamped up 8 scraps of yellow pine 2x4 and drove a 4" #12 hardened steel screw (from McFeely's) into the stack. I used a 6" long square drive bit normally used for driving pocket screws. The screw broke when the head was approximately 5" BELOW THE SURFACE. Pretty cool.
br /
br /Light:
br /- the unit is significantly brighter than my 6-cell Maglight with fresh batteries, and will run seemingly forever on a charge.
br /- As I've read in other review it is lightweight to the point of feeling cheap, but in the end it performs very well. Also includes an extra bulb.
br /
br /Charger:
br /- intuitively easy to use, provides lots of information about the batteries and charging progress. One neat feature is a programable tone when the charge is complete. Charged a completely drained, hot battery in about 20 minutes.
br /
br /The bag:
br /- Its a small thing, but the internal design of the bag makes it very easy to insert and remove the tools. In my opinion it performs much better than a hard case where you have to fidget with the tools to get them to fit. The bag is large enough to easily fit all the tools and charger with room left over for a container of driver bits or drill bits.
br /
br /Overall the only thing that keeps the kit out of coveted 5-star territory is the slightly sticky trigger on the drill, an issue that would most likely not bother most users. As a previously loyal Dewalt customer, I wholeheartedly recommend this kit and all of its components.

You will not regret this purchase. I can't believe these tools are so light, yet they are one of, if not the most powerful tools in their class. The LED light is awesome, obviously incredibly useful. The 15 minute charger is great. This set are really the future of cordless power tools.

makita has made an excellent upgrade on their already fantastic impact drill, I upgraded from an old makita 12v combo set. I am very happy with this lightweight powerful combo. Both drivers are well balanced, the 1/2" chuck on the drill is great, and the l.e.d light stays on for a few seconds after letting go of the trigger, this is really nice. Super fast charge, Lithium-ion batteries are awesome.

Anyone as confused by the compact vs regular lithium technology in these Makita Drills as I was?
br /
br /I have used both the compact and the LXT version of the Makita Lithium cordless tool sets. Mostly the impact driver and drill/driver. I am a electrical contractor and am pretty hard on my tools.
br /
br /First both sets worked great. However, I did find that I spent considerable amount of time fetching new batteries with the compact version of the drills. I found this to be irritating, and prefered to use the LXT lithium drill as it lasted twice as long and had maybe just a little more UMMMPHHH to it.
br /
br /One of my employees who has long struggled with tendonitis in his arm will use nothing else besides the compact version. It is about a pound lighter and it makes enough difference, of course he gets paid the same whether he changes the battery pack ten times a day or five.
br /
br /Bottom line, both drills work very well. The compact is so light it makes it worth it for people doing lighter use, difficult position, or constant ladder work. But overall I would say it is better suited for the serious homeowner/weekend-warrior rather than the full time contractor. The regular LXT(non-compact) tools, although just a little heavier, are still much lighter than previous technologies and feel like a bag of feathers in comparison to a Dewault. They also lasted longer on a single charge(twice the storage capacity in the battery cells), which was the key selling point for me and the little extra power (insert Tim the toolman grunt here) was well worth it. Then again, if I am light duty user/homeowner and not using these tools daily, the compact version would certainly fit better into my budget and would still do everything I needed it too.

I knew I wanted the drill from having played around with a friend's. It's outstanding.
br /
br /I bought the combo based on a few reviews saying how outstanding the driver is.
br /
br /I must concur. The driver is outstanding.
br /
br /What the reviewers didn't say was that it has an automatic transmission that grunts it out to low speed/high torque - and the kicker - switches into a hammer-driver mode at slow speeds to realy torque it out.
br /
br /It will drive deck screws through 2x4's without breaking a sweat - or spinning your bit - and then back them right out again.
br /
br /So do get either the 2 or 3 piece combo to get the driver. it'll be your default "power screwdriver" for everything but the gentlest applications.
br /
br /I have to say I like the flashlight too. Nice, bright, and positionable, I use it more than I figured - having it always in the combo kit bag.

I build furniture and cabinetry on the side as well as some remodeling on my own home. This is the second Makita purchase I have made and I'm loving them more and more. They just seem to have a common sense approach to tools. Very well engineered, durable, and reliable at a reasonable price. This package is priced incredibly.
br /
br /The drill driver feels solid with plenty of power and good balace.
br /
br /The impact driver does everything I imagined and more. Very powerful and controlable. The bits just don't slip. That little thing is awsome!
br /
br /Both the drill and impact driver are very small and compact which makes them very maneuverable in all situations. I also found the little LED light on the front pretty helpful. Charger is great and charges in 15-20 minutes.

This new LXT line of products are hard to beat. They have the weight of a 14v product with more torque and run time than any other you want to compare them with.

No comparison to the DeWalt line of products, I once swore by DeWalt but they have fallen behind with the times. Batteries are resonably priced but, give you all the benefits of what Lithium Ion products have to offer.

If you are lookig to upgrade your cordless tools this is the set to give you power, run time, torque and best battery life on the market. This three piece set with the 15 minute charger and two batteries is hard to beat for the price.

Have had this kit for just under a year. The weight of the tools is phenomenal. Very light and excellent balance. The impact gun is pretty impressive. The drill, however, doesn't really have the ooomph I was hoping for. And if you are doing a lot of drilling, expect your batteries to get very hot, and also to take a very long time to cool down before the charger will start charging them. I've had these guns heat up quite a bit while under heavy use, so much so that I've had to put gloves on. This is drilling into steel, by the way. These are great guns for the price and the weight, but under heavy usage (I'm a scenic carpenter in the entertainment industry), the drill is less than impressive. And the clutch just died on it. I'm going to stick with Makita, but I'm going for the more powerful guns.

(From July 17, 2007) I'm a lead carpenter for a residential remodeler. I've owned 11 cordless drills over the years (currently I have 4) and this Makita is not only the best of the bunch, by far, it may be the best power tool I own. I've had it for about a month now and I've used it everyday. I have a complete compliment of "quick disconnect" bits so I also use this driver as a drill. I've drilled holes in concrete and block using masonry bits and it will easily countersink Tap-cons. I thought the little work light was a gimmicky thing but I have to admit, its a big help in tight dark places, I've even used it as a flashlight. For the size, weight, price, quality, power, etc, etc, you can't beat this drill/driver. The batteries charge in about 15 minutes but they last for days so with 2 batteries, you'll never be without a charged battery. The tool came with a soft square carrying case, kind of looks like a cooler. Since I hate wearing a tool belt rig, this case is great, if you remove the charger, this case will hold a bunch of standard handtools as well as the drill.
br /This is a great product, I highly recommend it.
br /
br /*Update Its been just over a year and I have to say this drill is as good as the day I got it. In the last few months I purchased the combo kit, the drill and impact driver. I was curious to see if the first one I bought was still as strong as the brand new one. I see no difference. I am still more impressed with these drills/drivers than any tool I own....and its about time Makita sends me some free stuff for the gushing reviews. Seriously tho, you won't be disappointed.

We're really pleased with this Makita set. The combo is a great buy. We have Ryobi tools in general, because of the price point, but their new lithium combo's are hard to find, and they are not yet complete. So it's a real treat to finally have a real Makita. The torque on both the drill and the impact and fantastic, battery life is great, charging is super-quick, ergonomics are super. The chuck on the drill is the slickest one-hander I've tried. The carry bag is a nice piece of work too.
br /UPDATE 10/2008: Every time I use these tools, I realize they have paid for themselves... especially the impact driver. At home and also on the job (doing small construction or remodeling projects for clients) the driver has saved me so much time and aggravation! Rarely do I have to drill a pilot hole. It's so compact I can fit it most anywhere. And the batteries really hold up recharge in a jiffy on the job. The only small complaint I have is that the hooks on the carry bag strap broke; turns out they were cast, pieces of junk (not up to Makita standards).

This is my fourth cordless drill in the last few years. It has a great heft and feel to it. Recharges quickly, and has gobs of power. I compared the Makita to the new Hitachi lithium drill, and found I liked Makita much better. It is a bit more compact, lighter and has much more comfortable grip.

My 15 month old Ridgid 14.4v drill (which is a good cordless drill), can't hack cutting a 1" hole in .063" steel with my Irwin Unibit. I had to switch to my corded drill for those holes. Now that I have the Makita, it cuts the same holes with no problems.

The fact that you get the $230 Driver thrown in for basically nothing makes this a great deal.

The combo kit is very handy. I use it at work. The flashlight is very bright and lasts for about an hour on one charge. the batteries charge in about 15 minutes so it is hard to not have one ready by the time you need it. The only downfall is that the batteries are only 1.5 Ah so if you are not around a power source you may have problems. Makita does sell a 3.0 Ah batterie for this kit, if you need the extra time.

These tools are probably not for the construction world but for the homeowner the are great. I just moved into a home and have used them a great deal. The LED lights are great. I am a long time Makita user. This is an upgrade from all of the 9.6v Stuff that I have. Makita should have included the Belt clip for the tools. This would come in handy. It is just a hassle to go to a dealer just to buy a clip..

I bought this for my husband, who is a professional cabinet installer. He loves this set! The quick battery charge time saves him a lot of headaces and reduces his time spent on the job. The light weight is handy when having to hold it so much during the day. The LED light really helps seeing the holes when putting drawer slides on in a box where the light is low. The flash light has really come in handy on new construction jobs where the power outlets have yet to be installed.

I have been using these tools every day at work and have never been more impressed with their performance. The light weight makes carrying them around a breeze and the battery life has been nothing short of amazing. The batteries recharge in what seems like no time at all (15min at the most, much less if they just need a topping-off). We use DeWalt tools as well and the Makita drills hold their own against these tools any day of the week. Cost-effective and they have yet to let me down, even through daily abuse indoors or out (Alaska). I would recommend these to anyone and our supply department is considering switching over to Makita tools based upon this purchase and a coworker's.

This is the first impact driver I've used. It works great to get out stubborn screws without stripping the heads. You can screw straight into a knot of hardwood with this. It's got torque to spare. The kit comes in a carrying case which is nice but if you want to put the drill or driver in your tool box you will find the universal charger to big to do so. Amazon ad said there's a battery rebate to get another battery which did not come with the kit. So I guess I am out of luck on that. The kit doesn't come with the belt clip so if you want one get it from ebay. Still this is the best driver kit at this price and can't be beat.

I got the 3 piece kit at a good price. However, the drill had a massive wobble - visible and noticable even without a bit. I returned the first set for a replacement (kudos Amazon) and hope #2 will be better. No doubt he chuck is of poor quality, but it acutally seemed like the shaft may have been the source of the shake.
br /
br /The kit is a decent value but I was a little dissapointed with the overall quality - definitely Makita's "value" line. That being said I did opt for a replacement instead of a refund. If the second set arrives without the wobble I'll be happy with the tools for the price.

br /Good through September 2008.
br /
br /I don't have any chuck wobble as some others have described on either tool and the batteries have been fine so far. Knock on wood.
br /
br /The impact driver is the only way to go for any medium to heavy duty screw driving. I used 4" x 3/8" hex head lag screws to hang a 2x4 in the garage(then put screws into that for hanging brooms, shovels etc). I could have countersunk the head of the lag into the 2x4 there was that much power.
br /
br /With the drill set to 2nd gear and on the drilling torque setting it went through 3/4" hard maple without breaking a sweat. Nice tools.
br /
br /I had a guy install a garage door recently and he had the blue version of these tools. When I told him I had the black and white(shamu) version, he wouldn't shut up about how great he thought they were. He used the impact driver to do the whole install -- rails, springs, hinges, all the hardware.
br /
br /I'll update with any problems.

Makita has been putting out quality tools for a long time and this drill set is no exception. The power and long battery life of this lithium ion set make it a great value compared to its competition. The impact gun always seems to have the right amount of torque to loosen up even the tightest bolts, while the drill seems to have endless power to drill through almost anything on a single charge. 2 thumbs up.

This combo set is unbelievable! AWESOME power with the impact driver, and the drill has incredible control. I have used several different brands of power tools during my home renovations, and I can say that this one is my favorite. The compact size, long lasting batteries, and durability makes this the perfect set for either the weekend warrior, or a professional contractor. Also, when they say the batteries charge in 15 minutes, they really mean it. I highly recommend it.

By the way, I did my homework before buying, and I can say with confidence that Amazon has THE lowest price.

I was a little hesitant to order this at first because the driver is listed as model number BHP452HW, while I really wanted the newer model BDF452HW. However, the description is wrong. It does come with the latest BDF model. This really is a great deal compared to buying the driver by itself. The tools have a great feel and I'm sure I'll enjoy them for years to come.

Well I don't own this product..... yet! Still looking for best prices. I worked with a buddy of mine who is a professional window installer, and uses the Impact driver on a daily basis. Last month he came by with a buddy to help install new windows at my place, and had this fine piece of equipment. I was able to pry the impact driver away from his hand long enough to install some of the framing. I tell ya, this tool is a must have for anyone putting screws in all day! Noisy? Yes! get's the job done? Without question! No stress on the wrists, lightweight, fast at driving 3 1/2" screws, quick charge and for the money and what you get, a bargain. Don't miss out with this one.

I've owned this product for over a year now and I often wonder what I did with out it. The impact driver sees most of the use and I'll never be without one again. No problems to report at all.....Batteries charge fast and provide plenty of power. I was attaching 5 1/2 ledger locks through a pressure treated 2 x 10 and into the box joist of my house and there was no need to pre-drill. This would have taken much longer without an impact driver! I find myself always grabbing the impact driver, even for driving normal screws. The drill is of great quality, but it sits there a lot! Maybe Makita with offer a kit with two impact drivers minus the drill!

Great functionality and user-friendliness in these tools. Glow-in-the-dark rings at the ends of the chucks for working in dark spaces. LED lights to illuminate the work. Light and well-balanced. If you drive a lot of screws and have never used an impact driver, you'll never use a drill to drive them again.

I,ve owned several cordless drills and impact drivers in the past but none of them can compare to these tools. The power to weight ratio is nothing short of amazing. I can use the tools for long periods of time without the fatigue that I always experienced with my older tools. Lots of power and quick recovery time for recharging. Great, great tools.

I bought this drill almost a year ago. I use it professionally (I'm a helicopter mechanic) and at home. This is a very powerfull and LIGHT drill. I replaced a dewalt 18v when I bought this one. There is no way I will go back to any other drill. I use it everyday, I even used it to put up a 12' X 21' metal building. Putting up the building did put a bit of a taxing on the drill, but that is a job that is meant for a screw gun not a cordless drill. It worked excellet though. The impact has worked very well for me as well, however I haven't put it through the rigorous beatings that I have put the drill through but I'm sure it would handle it's self in the same manor. My favorite part is how quick the batteries charge you never have to worry about running out of juice.

My 9V Makita finally went belly up so I saw this combo kit. At the time it had a rebate for a free third battery. The power of the 18 V over the old 9V is very clear to see but the battery charges in far less time so with the two that come it you should always have power close at hand. I like the hand chuck and there are more setting than I had used in the past. The light I have not used but the driver and the impact driver are both welcome new member to my tool box.
br /
br /A co-worker recommended this kit though he has the two piece which means no light. I would go with either one.

I don't know how many years impact drivers have been available, but I used my first last year on a Rebuilding Together project where the lead contractor had one. When I think of all the buggered screw heads I have created with my big, high torque drill, I almost weep. The impact driver does the job without fuss, never messes up even stainless steel screw heads (ss is softer than "regular" screws), is light weight, and in general is a joy to use. The 1/2" drill and flashlight were just a bonus for $40. Get one, you won't regret it.

I purchased a month ago instead of replacing batteries on an 8yr old porter cable 14.4V, first I am a professional user...General Contractor for more than ten years. Both in kit are lighter and more powerful than previous PC unit, light is ok..its bright but head seems a bit floppy. Time will tell if it will hold up to rough use, impact kicks A**! I can drive nearly 49 3" spline drive const. screws on single charge. It also takes the larger batteries and will drive about 90 screws. First impact I have owned and definitely the way to drive screws, less operator fatigue and less wear on bits. Batt's charge fast, bag is kinda waste it looks like a lunch bag with no x-tra room. Only wish I would have bought the kit with the radio...that's next on my list. Price was great Amazon delivered price $270 it was best going at the time...today is lower...tomorrow maybe higher? prices keep changing. Great value!

I am very happy with the performance of all three pieces in this kit. The impact driver worked better than the drill for removing some stubborn screws in my deck (although it is pretty loud!). The batteries and charger work great, very fast charging and good status indicators on the charger.
br /
br /My only complaint is that the ink on the "Makita" label on the side of the impact driver came off on my hand during use. Surely, the ink wasn't that fresh! I expect better quality from Makita. Time will tell how everything else holds up.

br /
br /No, not the battery power of the larger batteries, but you end up with 3 batteries with the limited time mail-in freebee. Plus, I received the free battery via mail-in in a very short time.
br /
br /All items fit in the case nice and compactly.
br /
br /Great bang for the buck.

br /P.S. I will be ready for the next great blackout - the flashlight and batteries that came with my 14.4 Makita served me well during the last one.

I have purchased and enjoyed using the makita driver a lot for screws, woodworking projects and finishing work on my new home. I have since purchased two more drivers as thank you gifts for family I liked them so much. They are light and great for most jobs. I use the dewalt for heavier jobs but not as much as the makita... its just plain easier with less weight!

I bought this set after seeing it in action at the IWF show in Atlanta. If you have never used an impact driver, you really don't know what you are missing. If you drive a lot of screws, it is a must have tool. This is a really good set for the money. The 1.5 amp-hr batteries strike a good balance between run-time and weight. Switching batteries is easy and quick. The batteries recharge in 20 minutes or less, so you can always have a fresh battery ready to go when one runs out.
br /
br /When I bought the kit, I wasn't too excited about the flashlight. I figured I'd seldom use it. We are now in 0ur 8th day without electricity after the remnants of Ike came through Ohio. That flashlight has been a real lifesaver. I bounce the light off of the ceiling and it lights up the whole room.

I work for a construction company and we bought all of our guys and the shop workers these drills. (about 8 or 9 total) These are lightweight, more powerful and lighter than any other drill I have used. BE GENTLE. Obviously Makita makes durable tools, but one has broken when it fell from a 10' ladder, obviously. Other than that, these drills are awesome and will continuously buy them or others. BATTERIES ARE AWESOME, but do not leave on charger, when its done take it off. THIS WILL KILL YOUR BATTERY. The light on it also helps if working at night or in the dark like we do for our company. Hope this helps. Dont kill your batteries. They are expensive lol.

This impact driver drill set was recommended to me by a professional cabinet maker. It is simply great; light, compact, powerful, quick charging, it even has an led light to help see in tight places. The only problem is perhaps it is too powerful. But this is probably my technique. I need to learn there is no pre-set clutch but the clutch is controlled by the trigger. For building a deck, it's the best.

Great balance and plenty of power. Charger instructions to change tunes or mute when charge completed said "unplug battery and reconnect within 5 seconds". Only works if battery is rapidly removed and reconnected within 2 seconds. Took two chargers from Amazon to figure this out. Makita's instructions get a 1. Amazon's customer service gets a 10.

After working alongside our contractor in a recent renovation on the house, and enduring his sniggering diss at my Old School corded Makita electric drill, I decided to follow his lead and step up to the Makita impact driver. I ordered it separately, then realized I could have the driver AND the drill in a set for just a few dollars more. (Sent back the driver; ordered the combo.) If you have never used an impact driver, they are amazing. For running in, say, deck or drywall screws it is a miracle cure. With my regular old drill I would have to seriously push while driving in the screw, hoping to keep the bit from camming out and ruining the phillips head about a 1/4" shy of being driven home. The impact driver makes the same clattering sound as it drives in the screw, but it's doing absolutely no harm to the screw head. You have to see it to believe it--like butta! I love the drill, too. It has a very good clutch: set it to drill, as such, with no slippage; or set a very low slip point to put in hinge screws without stripping out the soft pine doorframe--and any setting in between. The lamp is, in my experience, real close to useless. It came with two bulbs, one of them installed. The first one blew out in about 5 seconds. Second one is okay, but I could not find the same bulbs at Home Depot. I'll keep looking, but if this is some hard to come by specialty bulb, what's the point? I would just as soon have had the kit at a reduced package price, minus the lamp.

I used both the driver and the drill right out of the box. The first thing I noticed was the weight (or the lack there of). It's very well balanced and comfortable. I thought the led light above the trigger was a gimmick but it actually works well in low or no light conditions. The only thing I'd change about this system is the soft case. I'd opt for a hard case to protect my investment.

I am a 1st time home owner and a 1st time DIY'er. I had to install wall cabinets in the garage and with this kit, it was a piece of cake. As another reviewer said, I too will never drive wood screws with a drill again. The Impact Driver is just what I needed. Power in a really small package. The battery life is good too. I worked all day with the drill and impact driver on 1 recharge each.
br /The LED is also a nice touch and useful in dark corners. What's cool is that the led remains on for a few secs after the drill/driver has stopped and the recharge time is only 15 mins
br /The spotlight is a nice addition to the kit. A national retailer had the LCT200W (comes without the light) priced higher than this kit on amazon.
br /All in all, a great value for money.

Bought this drill and couldn't be more happy with it! Battery lasts a long time, a lot of power (esp the Impact Driver), and the price was the best I could find. My last Makita drill was purchased 10 years ago - I'm only replacing because the old batteries don't hold a charge (and I really wanted an impact driver). It looks like I have another 10 good years ahead of me with this drill!

For anyone who has not yet used an impact driver to install or remove screws, you are in for a big surprise. You'll never go back to a standard cordless drill/screwgun. Having said that, it still useful to have a drill in your arsenal with a standard chuck. And at this price, the flashlite is virtually free. This is the best tool purchase I've made in years.

This is an excellent kit. I use the impact driver daily and it performs great. Everything from driving screws to assembling and disassembling bolts and nuts. The small light on thesse tools is a great help I never expected. I've owned a dewalt set and the makita performs just as well if not better for a fraction of the price. I highly recommend this set for home and work use. The batteries hold up well and recharge very quickly and the tool is very well balanced and the batteries are very light. I bought this for work and will soon buy another set for at home. It makes all jobs alot easier.

Bought this set about six months ago and I am still amazed at the performance. The battery life is awesome. I am a cable technician, don't use the drill on a consistent basis, so being able to charge the battery once and then go for about 2 weeks without usage, then having to drill a 3/8 bit into a 2x4, it still gives the same output as if i just charged it. The Impact is awesome, goes through anything, the Light is bright enough to light up an attic or crawl space and the Drill will go through most anything its asked without hesitation.
br /All in all, if your not going to be using this for a hardcore construction purpose, then this is the best set out there.

Love this Makita Combo. I am a 68 year old woman and the drill and driver is light weight and fits ergonomically well in my hand. I used the driver to put in many many screws on our back deck. It had plenty of power. I recharged one battery through this work and found the battery charger worked well and recharged in a very short time. I would highly recommend this Makita Cordless Combo for quality and value (cost).

Based on favorable on-line reviews of the tools offered in this kit, I bit, and I'm not sorry. The light is bright; I finished an outside job after daylight was all gone, using this as a flood light. The 1/2" drill , though not a hammer-drill, has plenty of torque, is very compact and lightweight for such a tool, and the LED , which shines on the work piece is a very nice wrinkle - at times especially helpful. The impact driver is the real standout! So very compact, it amazed me with the stubborn screws and bolts it loosened and the quick and easy way it would sink and tighten without stripping. It also has the helpful LED. And the charger does charge fast. The price is very reasonable and a real bargain for what these tools will do. For their intended purpose I'd say they are "state of the art." For about 25 years now I've owned and much used in my contruction work battery powered tools : Skill, Bosch, Panasonic, Makita, and Milwaukee, and I've used other brands besides. For their purposes these are the best - such fun to use that I actually look forward to working with them.
