I bought this Driver about one month ago. My experience with it is good. Long run time, good power, excellent chuck and a good feel. I also own the Bosch and like it a lot also...but I think the Milwaukee is a little better.
br /
br /There is nothing to dislike about this tool. I read another review that was written by someone who does not own this tool and is repeating something he heard about reliability. How would you know if you do not own and use one?
br /
br /The handle is not too big in my hand (5'10" 165 lbs) and the tool has a quality feel when you use it.
br /
br /I'll update this after more usage, but in the first month, I am satisfied totally.
br /
br /Update 8/28/2008
br /Further use of the Milwaukee driver has proven my original review. I still think this is just a little more tool than the Bosch. The chuck is a little more sophisticated and the power feels a little stronger. I like that Milwaukee is using this platform for new tools (M-Spector) and I hope to see more in the future. The battery gauge is a plus and this driver is a pleasure to use. Makita has just introduced a similar tool with even more torque and two speeds. Time will tell how the Makita stacks up against the competition, but you will not be sorry if you purchase this Milwaukee. I'd buy it again.

As a door and window contractor I use battery powered tools every day. When I went looking for something smaller and lighter to complement the big tools. I came across the Bosch 10.8 as the perfect solution and picked one up last year. It was nice, but not the great power it claims. The big problem came, though, when it got below freezing here and I found the tool just wouldn't run, period, until it warmed up again. This was more than just a bit aggravating when you want to get the job done and you're putting the tool in your coat to warm the poor thing up. I found I had to take the thing back and forth to the house every night so I could use it on the job without delay. I realize this won't matter to a lot of people in the toasty states, but I thouhgt it might be helpful info for those others that live in cold climates and don't want to coddle their tools keeping them warm at night.
br /I did try another Bocsh 10.8 in case this was just a single tool problem, but the exact same thing happened. It won't function in the cold.
br /So I picked up the Milwaukee 12V when it came out and have had none of the problems. I like it better and it's very comforttable in the hand, it has more power than the Bosch, and runs longer. The one hand chuck is great.

This is a fine product. More power over the Bosch. This driver went all day without a charge with installing bathroom fixtures. It will drive two and half inch screws all day. I stopped counting over 60. Though it has enough gentle torque to put together the smallest screws with fixtures. Real good at starting a screw or drilling a hole.

The charger is fast even on a hot battery.

The case is real nice cordura and can store more bits.

I would recommend this product to anyone who will do a lot of detail and finish work. Its so light to carry and has plenty of longevity in the battery.

The first reviewer must have real small hands. I think that review was poor and did not comment on the power or features of the unit.

I got my hands on one of these today at a tool demo day. I own the Bosch 10.8 volt driver already, but this one has a much nicer fit and finish and it drives much quicker. It also has an onboard battery meeter and a nice quick release chuck. I wish that I had held out for the Milwaukee. I highly recommend it.

I work in the handy-man and home repair field and also have my own home wood working shop. In my business, I need to have a large assortment of tools on board the vehicle, so size, functionality and reliability are key. I was a little concerned that a drill-driver with only 100 in-lbs of torque would be able to handle enough of my jobs. Anyway, given the good reviews and my own positive experience with Milwaukee tools, I decided to take a chance. Boy am I glad I did. This has turned out to be my favorite cordless tool. It handles 90% of the jobs where I need a drill/driver, while being easy to handle and always ready to go (the Li-ion batteries really hold a charge). It will drive a 3.5" deck screw in pine and is small enough to get into tight spaces. One of the features that does not get enough attention is the carry case. It is a padded canvas case so it is flexible enough to accommodate a lot of the accessories you need, as opposed to a hard case that limits what you can fit inside. I can include a bag of assorted tools like hinge bits and nut drivers, a hard case of hex drill bits, a hard case of screw bits and drivers, assorted spade bits, and a 3/8" hex bit chuck for when I need to use some of my non-hex drill bits. All this in a case about 8.5"x12.5"x3.5" (I think the product dimensions given above must be the size of the box it comes in). I've had this for 3 months now so I can't rate the longevity, but it sure seems to live up to the professional grade reputation of Milwaukee tools. I highly recommend this to both people in my line of work and the general consumer looking for a quality drill/driver.

I am a professional automotive and light truck mechanic. I specialize in electrical, electronic and driveability concerns. This puts me frequently in the driver's compartment removing dashes, consoles, door panels and more. Doing a heater core replacement on one of today's vehicles will involve usually between 4 to 12 hours of interior work. To this date on the first battery charge, I have performed 3 heater core replacements (two of which were 9 hour jobs), 4 door panel (regulator replacement) jobs, and countless other small jobs. My previous Makita was too big for the job and would have easily killed off its first battery pack in the middle of the first heater core job. This battery pack is still going.
br /
br /The LED illumination has come in handy along with a love affair that has grown looking at the battery life indicator. It is now showing the last segment (of which has been on for the last week).
br /
br /I have very large hands and yet I find that this "Sub-Compact" fits nicely.
br /
br /The sliding direction control is at times in the wrong place and other times in the perfect place for tight quarters control. As of this time, I would not change a thing.
br /
br /The power is very nice. I do not know if we can ever have enough power, but for the large number of automotive screws that I purchased this for, it is more than adequate. The variable speed control is also great. But once the screw is started, set the clutch and let it rip.
br /
br /This little guy has made a mundane part of my job almost fun as I can now remove a large pile of screws in no time then turn around and run out of screws almost as fast as I can pick them up.
br /
br /One side note is that with the power, one is tempted to try to break some fasteners loose that the body just will not take. I have felt the plastic body halves move a little too much in my hands when using the thing as a 12" breaker bar with a 10mm socket attached. Don't do this. The tool just wasn't designed for that...

I was skeptical about something so small being useful and concerned it would never get used. But after 6 months of ownership, I keep it in my toolbag (as opposed to my heavy 18v ni-cad drill) and frequently find myself reaching for it instead of walking across the room and getting the 18v. This thing is pretty amazing. I probably do more with it than its designed. The battery will last 2-3 days without running out. Recommended.

Although it is true that the grip is bigger in diameter than a typical cordless drill, it is not bad. I'm a 5'8" tall guy with average size hands, and it fits like a dream. It fills the hand more than typical cordless drills, because the battery pack goes inside the grip. It is not so big that you'd give up any control, or that it tires you out. On the flipside, the fact that the batteries are inside the grip mean that they're less likely to get damaged in case of a drop.
br /
br /The LED work light is VERY bright. The LED battery gauge is a very nice touch, as is the rubber gripping area. The gear case is metal, and the clutch has a very solid action.
br /
br /The thing about this driver is that everything is just right for driving tasks: It is a compact but comfortable and well-balanced shape. It has enough power to get most jobs done. Just don't expect it to replace your high-end cordless drill. It doesn't have the speed for fast drilling in wood. It doesn't have the torque for driving lag screws. It will still drill wood, it will just require 1/4" hex shank bits and a bit more time. The speed range is perfect for drilling metal. Not fast enough to overheat things.
br /
br /Compared to the Bosch Litheon 10.8 V driver, this one has just a bit more of everything: speed, torque, weight, price, and probably ruggedness. If you think you can get by with less than 100 in.-lbs. of torque, the Bosch might be the way to go. If you need more torque than that but like the small size, look at the Bosch 10.8V Litheon impact driver, which makes 800 in.-lbs. of torque.
br /
br /I'll update this as I get more miles on it. I'm going to be using it 95% of the time for driving screws.
br /
br /I hope the photos I added (while logged in as my wife, whoops!) were helpful.

Indulgent Impulse Buy at First, Now a Household Essential

Although I thought I'd made a questionable impulse buy, I wasn't surprised to discover it was a high quality tool out of the box (you only need to hold a Milwaukee tool to know they're well-made). As for whether I really needed it or had enough things to use it for, I've done at least two minor home improvement/repair projects that my fiancee never bugged me to do at this point so I think that speaks for itself.
br /
br /Power?
br /
br /First of all it does drill. If you thought it was going to drill fast, you had unreasonable expectations. It's not a 2 lb. replacement for the V28 drill or one of Milwaukee's corded wonders. With driving in mind, it has a low RPM rating even though it has enough torque to actually jerk your hand a touch. It's a good thing it has so many clutch settings because you can actually do damage with the little guy if you leave it on the drill setting and you're not careful driving with it. So yes, not fast but plenty of power. Read the manual for a rough idea of what to set the clutch at.
br /
br /If you actually need to drill more than a handful of holes with it, get some high quality bits and Milwaukee's 1/4" hex to 3/8" drill chuck adapter. It still doesn't replace a heavier duty corded or cordless drill but it makes a world of difference in speed of drilling and drill bit options.
br /
br /Battery
br /
br /This is my first Li-Ion tool and I'm blown away. I've had it a couple weeks now and used it for 4-5 random home projects and some gratuitous drilling tests in some scrap wood. The battery currently in use holds its charge when inactive and hasn't dropped a light yet. The batteries recharged in about 30 minutes out of the box as advertised.
br /
br /Hopefully the Hackzall chews through batteries at least four times faster than this drill because I'm planning on getting the kit for the impact driver rebate and I have no idea what I'm going to do with 4 batteries if it doesn't. Sell them on e-bay I guess :)
br /
br /Quality/Design
br /
br /It feels rock solid in my hand and all of the black stuff you see on the tool (including the top) is made from a black rubber grip material that makes the drill easy to handle. It feels good in your hand and the weight and balance of it is perfect.
br /
br /The chuck is awesome. It locks shank bits in tight, has good stability, is very easy to use, has no identifiable wobble for me and it has just enough spring in it to actually eject hot bits if you want to but if the drill is angled up a smidge they won't fly out on you.
br /
br /It makes excellent use of LEDs. Battery indicators are essential on Li-Ion tools since they give very little indication that they're about to run out of juice by losing power (manual says power will drop just long enough to finish a task while letting you know you need to replace the battery but I can't verify that yet - which is impressive, IMO).
br /
br /Anybody who has ever had to get under a desk in a dimly lit cubicle farm won't need to ask whether the light was worth implementing. Great feature. I don't know what its critics are talking about. I have no problem finding screws in the dark with it.
br /
br /Aesthetic
br /
br /No practical-minded man wants to fess up to this but ugly tools... well, let's just say I'm glad Milwaukee, Bosch, and Makita all tend to outperform DeWalt so I could avoid feeling childish for having a dilemma that's not 100% performance-related. It almost looks like an atomic raygun from some forgotten '50s serial. I find that exceptionally cool and it probably adds more to the experience of using it than I'd like to admit but it would still be a winner if it was butt ugly.
br /
br /Handle Size Issue
br /
br /I have average, perhaps even smallish hands for 6'3 (or just a lot of large-handed medium height friends) and the grip is comfortable for me but if you have small hands, give it a test-drive at a hardware store with Milwaukee demo products first. I'm seeing positive reviews from a lot of women though so perhaps it's not really an issue. It's definitely wider than it looks in the pictures though which is why so many probably comment on it.
br /
br /In fact, I suspect it's that width that keeps the placement of the direction switch from being an issue for most. I hit it by accident sometimes and saw a review from a self-proclaimed large-handed guy saying he had the same problem but enough to actually be a nuisance for him, whereas for me it's a minor issue that doesn't come up often.
br /
br /Value
br /
br /On the one hand, $100-130 still seems a bit much for the value-minded consumer who only needs something like it a few times a year. On the other, this is one of those tools you like so much, you start looking for crap to do with it. If you don't know what I mean by that, give this thing a whirl and you may suddenly remember a bunch of projects you've been putting off for a while or invent some new ones.
br /
br /Also, the versatility you get out of a power tool that accepts hex bits could save you a lot of needlessly pricey purchases for one-time use items (just get the right bit instead for cheap) and it will eliminate the need to keep a wide variety of hand tools on hand. Hex to ratchet set adapters are available (I got a cheap one that covers three sizes) and I recommend Milwaukee's 3/8" hex to drill chuck adapter. If you have a crappy old 3/8" corded Black and Decker drill or equivalent around for drilling the occasional pilot hole, you can replace it with this tool.
br /
br /And let's not forget Milwaukee's 5 year warranty. Not even Bosch, Milwaukee's biggest rival for quality, IMO, offers that on their power tools. The majority of negative Milwaukee reviews from people who had something go wrong with a tool rarely mention any attempt to actually talk to Milwaukee rather than Amazon for some reason.
br /
br /Rebate (expires after 2008)
br /
br /This is huge. Milwaukee has a tool rebate active until the end of the year. Get any two kits and you get the Impact driver for free. When it's sold as a standalone (no batteries or charger), I'm guessing the impact driver will be about 50 more bucks than this tool as a standalone. If like me, you're excited about the Hackzall, for about 90-100 bucks more than the drill/driver, impact driver, flashlight 3-tool combo kit, you get an extra charger, two more batteries and you replace the silly flashlight with a Hackzall which from the reviews I've seen is another lightweight wonder. You could sell the the extra batteries and charger and possibly pay less than you would for the combo kit. With the rebate in mind, consider this a six-star item.
br /
br /Conclusion
br /
br /You can't go wrong with this driver/drill as a gift and if you have even a spark of a DIY spirit, tools like this can fan that spark into a fire. It's a fine-quality tool that I expect will last beyond the point that Milwaukee stops making batteries for it in spite of being made with Chinese parts and it adds a lot of lightweight, portable versatility that will be appreciated by anybody who ever needs to screw or put a hole in something. I'm not a pro or seasoned woodworker/rehabber (yet) but I suspect it will be appreciated by the occasional picture frame-hanging homeowner who likes nice things, passionate DIYers and picky professionals alike.

I have always been a fan of Milwaukee drills. They have always been the top of the line in my opinion, but they are a bit expensive and heavy. I was always looking for a smaller, lighter, powerful 12v - 14v drill, as I use it almost daily in my workshop building furniture and cabinets. I had been wanting the bosch 10v drill similar to this for about a year, but figured I'd wait until something better came out. Well I am glad I waited because the Milwaukee 2401-22 is exactly what I had been looking for. It is small yet very stout. Fits in my big hands perfectly. I can even hold it like a cigarette with my index finger on top and middle finger on the trigger for better accuracy. I was a little weary on the chuck, but it is top quality like the other Miluakee drills, it locks the bit in place so it doesn't pop out while your working. The torque settings come in handy when you don't want to overdrive something, because for its size it does pack some torque. The LED light is a nice addition especially when your blocking your own light and can't see the work piece as well. The built in battery meter lets you know how much juice the battery has left, and these Li-Ion batteries last forever and are so small and lightweight, and they charge in less than 30 minutes. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase of this drill and recommend it to anyone looking for a compact driver.
br /
br /
br /
br /(6-18-2008)Just wanted to update the review. The chuck broke on my Milwaukee 2401-22 while I was screwing some 3" screws into some 2x4s a couple of weeks ago. I called Milwaukee customer service and they answered quickly and gave me info to the nearest service center that could fix it. Only problem is that it was 50 miles away. So I decided just to take it apart and fix it myself rather than pay the fuel expense to take it to the service center. A snap ring that holds the shank of the chuck in broke and I just so happened to have one that fit it. It was very easy to work on and the exploded diagrams from the milwaukee site helped a little. Anyhow it is back like new. I don't know if this has been an issue for anyone else.

Could have used this the last few years!

This is a great tool. Light enough for overhead work but powerful enough to get the job done. I don't understand the reviews about the handle being too big as I have used it for a day and didn't get tired after driving the first screw (as another reviewer claimed). As for the forward/reverse switch - it is about the same place as the Bosch and Ridgid compact drivers I looked at before I purchased it and I didn't hit it once while using it. The bit changing system is just about perfect for me. I am renovating a 100 year old house and I also do small household repairs/renovation/handyman work for people. This works just about perfectly for its intended purposes. Light repetitive work such as installing blinds, cabinet hinges, door locksets or working overhead such as installing light fixtures and smoke detectors. I do many other things with it but these are just examples of what it excels at. It can drive a 3 inch screw - I tested it. I may use it in a pinch for that. It can drill small holes. But I'm not about to throw away my 18v hammer drill or impact driver. Its light, powerful enough and easily carried. Just what I needed.

Happy so far!

I own a 18 v milwaukee hammer drill and it has been good to me withe the exception of the batteries. The problem is the weight and size. Most of the time I do not need all that brute Strength that the 18v produces and that sent me in search of something a little lighter and smaller. I started looking for a 14v Milwaukee drill and then decided that I do not need another drill, my 18v is all that I will ever need as far as power. So I started looking for a small compact cordless driver. I Looked at the Bosch PS20 and then the Milwaukee 2401-22 because of their reputation and the fact that it had 100in lbs of torque as opposed to 80in lbs on the bosch. 0-500 rpm as compared to to 0 to 400 rpm o the Bosch. it was a no brainer for me, milwaukee quality, faster and more power over the competition.
br /
br /The handle is a little fat but it still feels good to me and i have a medium sized hand ( I think most people will feel comfortable unless they have a tiny little hand). The tool looks good and feels solid. I like the quick connect chuck. It is plenty powerful and will drive a 3 in wood screw into most anything from my experiences, I have not tried any hardwood such as oak as of yet. Battery runtime seems to be great, I used it for a good half day and it still shows 3 out of 4 on the fuel meter (I am impressed). now the question i would like to know but has not really been talked about on the reviews is how long the battery stays charged when not in use, I am hopefull it can sit idle for a couple of months without discharging. I will report my findings at a later time. The case is made of condura and is black and red and actually looks pretty cool. It seems to have ample room inside for storing extras such as a small case with bits (I would have preferred a hard case but the supplied case is nice and seems to be well thought out). Bottom line? It is a nice tool but not a replacement for the 18 volt drill but it does compliment it nicely and can be used to do 90% to 95% of the things I would normally pull out the big drill for. Buy it you wont be disappointed. I will report back in with an update to review when I have a few more months of heavy use.

It was a tough choice between this and the Bosch, which many friends have. It's been only a week since I got this and I'm totally sold. The Milwaukee has got a lot of power: I used it on about 35 3" screws into PT (same battery) and it's a breeze with pocket screws and trim heads. Great for cabinet work.
br /
br /I've used the Bosch a lot and it would have been fine, but this is newer and better. I made the right choice.

I feel sorry for Milwaukee . They have made a tough sub compact DRIVER that is super powerful , packed with features , fits your hand like a dream , and is small enough to drop into the pockets in your tool belt . Yet they get complaints because it does not drill well . It's a " DRIVER " not a driller folks . The handle is a 1/4 " this way or that . I was hoping it came in blue etc. etc. I for one thank Milwaukee for once again making a tool that's clearly tougher than some of the guys using them . Thirty plus years on the job thanks Milwaukee ......

I am a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Homeowner who just purchase this powerful little sub compact driver. I own the Dewalt 7 volt driver and I compared the two. There is no comparison... The Milwaukee is a powerful, versatile "go to" tool that should be in every homeowners tool box. I don't buy cheap tools . you just get frustrated, bust your knuckels or botch the job you're working on. I compared the two drill/ drivers against a powerful corded drill by driving large screws (and I mean large for most homeowners) and using large drill bits in some seasoned old forest oak wood. The Milwaukee performance was strong and fast and will definitely handle most if not all jobs around the home. However don't throw away your 18 volt or corded drill, just put them up. I will be selling my Dewalt or consigning it to the tool shed.

I love this tool!

Until I bought this tool, I was chucking my screwdriver bits into my 18V Dewalt drill. Holding that over my head to hang cabinets got real old, real quick. I bought this unit, and fell in love at first trigger pull. I also find that not having to change bits back and forth makes me much more productive.
br /I also do automotive work, and the small size is very handy for getting in to do interior work.
br /Pros:
br /The grip is just perfect. Someone else said it was too big, I have very small hands and it fits me perfectly.
br /Power, this thing has more than enough power.
br /Clutch works great.
br /Durability, a battery seems to last forever, and it comes with two.
br /Weight, it's very light.
br /Fuel gauge: Let's you know the state of charge of the battery. Very handy.
br /LED work illumination You can also turn on the LED by pulling the trigger just a tiny bit to aid in starting screws without turning on the motor.(see cons)
br /Cons:
br /Using the unit left handed, I seem to keep bumping the fed/rev switch. Not a biggie
br /LED light is focused too low. The screwdriver tip is right at the very top of the LED beam. It should be closer to the center.
br /
br /All in all, I love this tool, and it is my tool of choice if I have to turn a fastener. It's not a drill, it is a driver. for this job it is superb.

This replaced my wife's ancient (and huge) Makita 9V drill. She uses it for general household purposes, and specifically for drapery installation. It is small, light, and handy. The light is usable and the tool has plenty of driving power. It spins a drill bit a bit faster than the Bosch, but neither should be bought as a primary wood drilling tool, as the drill speed is slow by wood drilling standards, though it works fine for my wife's purposes. (All the minis are slow.) The speed is fine for light metal drilling and, of course, general drill/driver use. The build quality is better than the Bosch, in my opinion, and MUCH better than the Black Decker mini. This is a well thought out product.

I have been driving 1 1/4" pocket screws with this baby all day long for the last week. It is wonderful. So light!!! The clutch is smooth and quiet. The chuck stays open until you inset the new hex bit, then locks securely. The handle is a little thick but OK for me. It won't stand on the battery but neither does the Bosch. One battery will last me all day. The LED is great but I wish it had a time delay to stay on longer like Makita drills. Speed is slow for drilling but allows great control for driving screws.

This little guy is the best power tool purchase I've ever made. I use the crap out of it. You can't beat it for hanging cabinets and running trim screws hanging doors. It works great for removing and installing cabinet doors, nice and compact to get into even the smallest cabinet. The clutch settings are very consistant. It will drive a 3' screw with ease although if you have a lot of heavy duty driving to do you should pony-up for bigger drill. The only minor complaint I have is I wish it spun a couple hundred RPM faster (500) so I could get away using it for a drill more instead of having to use my V28. Other than that, it is perfect.

I've had it almost a month and still have not had to charge the battery. I have used it for driving screws and drilling in metal. Nice compact size, although a little big to get in my carry around toolbox w/ my other hand tools like I did w/ my Craftsman bend-in-the-middle screwdriver. It's worth it for the extra power and long lasting battery w/ spare. My Craftsman did not have an interchangable battery. I took the battery charger out of the included nylon case to make room for a box of bits. The one-handed chuck is very nice.

Great tool read a lot of reviews before I bought it. This little power house has one speed and up to 14 on the chuck. The LED light is a great addition in applications where light is dim. Another nice feature is the light indicator of the battery lets you know when it is about to run out of juice.
br /Great buy I would buy it again if I needed to.

I have used this driver several times. I install closet shelving, and have used it to drive 200 #8x2" wood screws with a very aggressive thread, through 1/2" drywall, into 2x4 studs, without switching batteries!
br /
br /Pros: Battery lasts! Compact and light. Strong torque. Clutch works great. No "chuck" to spin against your work, and scratch it up. Battery indicator is great. Spare battery is small enough to keep in your tool belt without weighing you down. Charges quickly.
br /
br /Cons: I'm left-handed, and it's very easy to switch the forward/reverse switch. I pull the trigger with my middle finger. It's very comfortable that way. The light is powerful, but a little annoying sometimes. You have to use a special holder for a drill bit IF you want to drill. But, this isn't a drill, it's a driver. The RPM's are a little slow, but I imagine to get more RPM's you either gain size or weight.
br /
br /This has taken the place of my 18V drill/driver for driving screws. I still use the 18V to drill, but switching to this for driving sure has helped my shoulder. 200 screws without charging! That's pretty amazing to me.
br /

Love it.

I picked up this driver/drill back in June. I've used it mostly for building and installing cabinets. It's been perfect. I can quickly drill and drive accurately and with out the weight of standard drill. It's so small and it amazes me how powerful it is. My friend let me borrow his Ryobi cordless drill and it just didn't have power so I was very reluctant to go cordless but I'm so glad I did with this driver!
br /I've also done some drilling into concrete sub floor to install transition strips and it's worked great. It's not as good as a hammer drill but I put it through the paces and it stood up quite well. It has plenty of power and battery life. Oh the work light and battery indicator are both very nice features. I think most everything like cell phones all need flash lights on them... Anyway I would highly recommend picking up this impact driver/drill.

I'm sure I'm like all of buyers of this Milwaukee driver. I've compared Bosch PS20 and this one for a long time before I set my mind into this. I actually went to Home Depot and Howes and got them in my hands and played with them. After talking to one of the sales, he also said this Milwaukee product is better.
br /
br /The battery fuel gauge may not sound neccessory. However when it has it u'll be surprised how many time you actually check it. it's only a tiny little bit heavier (0.2lbs) without battery. It's very well built, good torque and speed for such a small driver.
br /
br /I sell and build computers. 500rpm doesn't sound impressive but it's the perfect speed for me after I try it. The LED on the front is a plus. Enough torque to screw/unscrew those big bolts used on rack mount.
br /
br /Today I built 2 rack mounts and the battery fuel gauge shows that I still have 3 lights out of 4. I'm kinda impressed by the battery life.
br /
br /I can't say this is definitely a better product compare with Bosch ps20 but I love it a lot only after 1 day of use. Highly recommand. Plus I like red and black other than boring blue by Bosch.

Compact, powerful, lightweight. This driver is a tool for small to medium projects that don't require the bigger driver. Its great for weekend projects around the home. If you have regular drill bits you need to get the adapter to use those. Im not a contractor and I'm not working on a house so this driver is all I need

If you're looking for design criticism, you'll have to look elsewhere, because I honestly can't think of any measure by which this superb tool falls short. Into its snub and maneuverable little shape, Milwaukee have packed an LED worklight, a clever and hassle-free bit-retention collar, a responsive variable-speed trigger, and a charge-indicating LED bargraph.
br /
br /Oh, yes. Also torque. Lots of torque.
br /
br /There are times when only a full-sized driver/drill is up to the task -- but for everything else, of late, this is the tool I find myself reaching for first.

This is a handy product. I have two other cordless drills but they are larger and not as handy as this one. Years ago I use drivers like these but the batteries would not last. They did not have the power and no light. The light is good to have but needs to show higher it does not let you see the screw you are driving other than that it is a good product.

One poster mentioned the size of the handle, and when measured, i got 6.25" in girth. That is actually 1" larger than my old 14.4 Milwaukee. However, I don't consider it a problem. In fact, when driving, I believe there is less wrist twisting with the larger handle, not that 100lbs of torque is really going to twist your wrist, but my 2 year old milwaukee has 395 lbs of torque, so it's an interesting difference. I like the power, it is fantastic for home and small project tasks. The housing on this feels like contractor level material, very durable. It's actually a very small driver, but you have to lay it on it's side to put it down, unlike the larger units that can sit on their battery. The subcompact-lithium is an interesting new genre of drills that has come out; I think many contractors that aren't hanging drywall all day are going to find these units fairly useful.

I had to write a review for this drill. I love tools and work with them all day every day and this is the best tool I've bought in years. I wouldn't try to build a large, heavy project with this, but I've been amazed at its' power and battery life when I've pushed it farther than I thought I should. I've become so accustomed to having a light, compact drill in my hand that I use it more and more and hardly ever have to switch up to a larger drill. I drove 2 1/2" #14's into teak with this drill and the battery was still showing full charge after ten of them. When I use it for small screws and light jobs, it seems to last for weeks and the batteries don't self-discharge because they're lithium-ion, so I can keep it in my truck and not have to worry about the batteries being dead when I take it out even if it's been a while. The construction of the drill feels solid and of high quality - lots of metal - very unlike most of the tools I'm used to buying these days. Do yourself a favor and buy the Milwaukee Quik-Lok 38 piece bit set with this. It fits perfectly in the compact carry bag that comes with the drill where the charger would go. With that, you almost always have everything you need, although I also bought a hex-shank 3/8" chuck to keep in the bag as well, because I knew I would want to use regular drill bits from time to time, which I do - countersinks, mostly. I think if I could only have one cordless drill, I'd have this one and use a corded drill for the toughest jobs, which are often more appropriate anyway.

Im a home appliance repair tech. I use this driver for small screw removal and occasional bolt removal no bigger than 5/16th. This driver is perfect for my job. The small light is the best feature and the bit holder is so simple to use. The first battery charge lasted me a week of work. The unit is light well balanced and rugged. I dont think the unit is under priced or over priced it is a really good value. This also has a 5 year warranty thats almost unbelievable. I paid $113.00 from Amazon shipping included. I highly reccomend this product if you do assembly or disasembly of items that have smaller screws. This item is not for a carpenter or wood worker or heavy duty iron work. And the battery also works with other Milwaukee tools. I cant wait to get the flashlight.

I love this new tool. It is lightweight, can get into tight spaces, and still drive a four inch screw like the big boys (I have used Milwaukee tools for a decade). It has a battery life indicator, a little light that comes on, and just feels rights in my hand. Also, it is much easier on my arthritic hands and elbows - at 100lb torque it does most jobs, and without wrenching my hand. Now I use the 18V just for framing and so on.
br /
br /It fits my pocket or gear-bag, and doesnt pull my pants down!! Now, if they could just make this cheaper! But hey, it's a man's tool, not a toy, despite the lightweight. Only one downside - it's made in China.

I own many electric drills and screwdrivers but none were suited for tight spaces. I then came across this small Milwaukee unit and looked it over. It appeared to be just what I was looking for, so I decided to give it a try. Milwaukee was a brand name high on my satisfaction list as I have many other Milwaukee power tools and been very happy with them. Buying this little 'powerhouse' was certainly not disappointing. It more than lived up to Milwaukee standards. It performs almost as well as my 19.2 volt Hitachi, a combo drill/driver that is almost twice as big and and has a huge battery - most cumbersome. I highly recommend this compact, powerful unit. It has become my favorite portable power drill/driver (I own three different size battery operated units) .

This is an amazing tool! It's compact size enables it to be used in spaces otherwise too small for a hand held drill. Having it available for use in cabinet making is a real treat. The Li-ion battery has a capacity that exceeds the typical power pack - I have yet to exhaust the total charge during a day's use. The "bit holder collar" makes changing bits and drivers very convenient. GREAT VALUE!

This is the best driver I have owned yet. The battery lasts forever before it needs charging and it only takes 30 min to charge so you should never be without power. With a right angle drill attachment you can use this in almost any space possible. The only thing that could improve this is if it had a drill mode with higher RPM setting. It doesn't drill through metal very well but it's not designed for that but with an RPM increase it easily could. Great driver!

I just got this drill in after taking back the Makita set I had been using for a few months. After using my buddies 2401 for a few weeks I decided I had to have one. First off I love the chuck its fast and has zero wobble. Second I dont think I will ever buy another tool without a battery indicator again, I love this. Third is feels better in my hand. Fourth to be honest it just plain looks nicer then the Makita. There are 2 things that i do miss from the Makita. First is the 2 speed option that is a big deal if you want to use it for drilling in which case I do but to be honest I rarely need more then 500 rps for anything I do. Even when going into wood I prefer not to use the faster speed in order to keep better control of depth. Second is the light delay which isnt too big of a deal but something i wish this drill had. Also on a side note I am not sure if this is a new model but on the box I received the Torque rating says 150 in lbs not 100 I am assuming this was recently changed. To be honest I cant tell the difference in torque comparing the makita to this drill.

I own the Milwaukee 2401 driver and have been using it daily. I have also used the Hitachi, Makita and Bosch 10.8 volt drivers. The Milwaukee is my overall favorite sub-compact driver, but the Makita and Hitachi have some enticing features that I wish were incorporated into the Milwaukee.
br /
br /Hitachi's 10.8 Volt driver uses a light ring as the clutch face which allows the entire work area around the bit to be illuminated as opposed to simply having a LED above the trigger (below the clutch) which only illuminates the lower work area below the bit. The Hitachi also free stands upright on the base of its battery like many of the larger cordless power drills impact drivers. Standing upright is nice and convenient, but it wasn't a deal breaker for me.
br /
br /Makita's 10.8 Volt driver has a 2 speed gear box which allows speeds of 0-350 RPM and 0-1,300 RPM. When set to the low speed (0-350), the Makita produces 200 inch pounds of torque and it definitely out drives the Milwaukee (100 inch pounds of torque) in terms of power based on my own testing from driving 1/4 x 3.5" hex head screws. The Milwaukee would drive the hex head screws so the base of the head was flush with the wood, while the Makita (in low speed) would continue driving the head into and well below the surface. When the Makita was in High Speed, it would sometimes drive the screw ~70% to ~90% of the way at best, but it sure is nice to have that 2 speed gear box because it really does add versatility to this driver. And the other thing I really like about the Makita driver is that it leaves the LED illuminated for several seconds after removing your finger from the trigger.
br /
br /One thing missing from these compact drivers is an extra bit holder. The other day I had to remove a couple dozen project boxes from a support rail, take them apart, remove the connected wiring, install strain reliefs, tighten the ground screws and put them back together while on a ladder. I had to switch between phillips, square drive and two different sizes of slotted bits for each project box. A spare bit holder would have been very convenient for this and other jobs I do where I have to frequently switch bits. My magnetic tray comes in handy for holding bits, screws, etc, but Milwaukee could have added a simple low profile spare bit holder into the top moulding for very little money and it surely would have been useful to many people besides myself. Even now, they could probably make a small 'optional' bracket to hold an extra bit or two that's simply secured by the two upper screws on top of the body just behind the clutch.
br /
br /I still prefer the Milwaukee 2401 driver over the other models because of ergonomics (fits mys hand very well), the quick bit loading chuck, the battery fuel gauge, the smooth progressive trigger, the tool selection using this same battery, the 5 year tool warranty, its ease of use, etc. But this could be a better product if it incorporated the following features:
br /
br /1) 'Light Ring' for better illumination all the way around the bit / work piece
br /2) Keep the LED's illuminated for several seconds after letting off the trigger
br /3) 2 speed gear box to improve torque for driving and a higher speed for drilling
br /4) Add a bit holder of some sort so we can keep different bits readily available on the tool.
br /5) Consider allowing future versions to stand upright if enough people think it's important to them. I'm happy with its current form factor.

I am an IT professional and needed to replace an aging Dewalt power screwdriver.
br /
br /We had a TV die in our office and a technician showed up to fix it... Almost all new lcd/plasma panels have tons of screws to remove the back cover. He brought this little beauty with him and let us feel it and test it out.
br /
br /I bought one 30 minutes after he left.
br /
br /The grip is great, it feels good to hold and is not HEAVY like a traditional drill. It is even lighter then our dewalt screwdriver.
br /
br /It comes with 2 batteries (a bonus) and a canvas tote....not to mention the charger. It has a LED light that aims up to the screw...awesome...but not really helpful in an IT scenario.
br /
br /Overall - I cant believe I havent seen this thing before. The build quality and the value are amazing.

This Driver works very well and has lots of power for its size. It will definitely reduce fatigue when working, especially overhead, which was the main reason I bought it. I thought I could find a small holster like the Bosch drivers, but none are available. Carrying case looks really good but is often difficult to get in and out of the elastic bands if you don't want to leave it lying out on the job. The second reason I bought this tool was that I thought it would be more convenient than a full size drill but it isn't. If you're looking for easy accessibility I would definitely get a Bosch.

I'm amazed that nobody has mentioned this, but "out of the box" you can't drill a single hole with this unit. In fact, not all driver bits fit as the foot below the notch has to be small. For that reason, I'm giving this unit four stars instead of five. To insert a drill bit, you have to purchase a chuck for inserting bits, item 49-22-1560, available at Amazon for $20.79. Milwaukee does have a quarter inch drill bit set with hex shanks that can be directly inserted, but it contains only seven bits. A much better bet is to purchase a kit containing these drills and a whole bunch of other great stuff, item 48-32-1500, available at Amazon for $24.68. I've also ordered item 49-22-8510, a right angle gear available at Amazon for $43.04 as I've always wanted such a device. Also, Home Depot has a perfect belt holster for it made by Husky, item 992 708. It even has the same red/black colors for those who like to be fashionable. The manual makes absolutely no mention about the drilling problem, and when I spoke to the Milwaukee tech about this, he said that the marketing department never consulted with them before printing the manual. Wow! Whatever, I love the device. However, in the light of all the rave reviews, I feel as though I'm the only one to see that the emporer has no clothes.

I saw a promo poster in one of the hardware stores I frequent and was very interested in this tool. When I asked about it, the manager told me that as a high-volume Milwaukee dealer they had received one of the first batches to be released, and had already sent them all back because the units kept breaking. Can't remember what part it was but it was one piece consistently. The stats on the driver sound good but if it doesn't last then stats aren't good for much, so I'm curious. Has anyone had one break during use?

First let me say this is the coolest looking tool mikwaukee has made yet, I'm happy to see the company is putting more thought into the look of their tools.

Unfortunately, the tool handle is way to FAT to be comfortable for anyone with less than large hands.
Comparitevly, the Milwaukee V28 tools are FAR more comfortable to hold than this tool is. I found my hand getting tired after driving one screw!

The Makita 18v lithium tools have such a superior feel they make this tool feel amatuer in design. It is almost comical to think that the purpose of this tool is to be compact and light weight and a total pleasure to use.

It is far from any of those things, the foward/reverse
switch is positioned in a place that almost garantees your gonna hit it while squeezing the trigger which disengages the motor or reverses the tool by accident, on top of that the feel of the switch is totally flimsy. There is no compasion to the fit and feel of the new makita, or dewalt tools.

As a remodeling contractor and homeowner, I could not see any value in this tool as it is.
