This is an excellent cordless drill with plenty of power and versatility. It fits comfortably in your hand and is very well balanced, unlike the Makita, which is a good drill, but is not well balanced. 18V is a must - don't waste time with anything less. An extra plus - it is made in the USA by a US owned company.

I have a number of DeWalt 18 volt tools. I never bought their 18 volt drill because it is so heavy. This compact model 929 is 18 volts but uses thinner batteries that are lighter than XP batteries. I am totally pleased with this drill. It is powerful, light, easy to handle and the chuck tights easily. It will accept XP battery packs for longer run time.

First rate drill.

Boy this drill just takes what ever you can dish out to it and laughs. I have worked it hard over the time that I owned it and had no problems at all. The battey life is good, and in my opinion about the same as other drills of its size. You have one pack in the charger and the other in the drill and all will be fine. It is of solid construction and a high quality of finish (as most DeWalt tools). The keyless ratcheting chuck works well. While they do not give them away, I think for the money you get a very good quality item that will out perform others in its class.

I've been using this drill for the past 5 years and it has performed flawlessly since day one. I've treated this drill like a redhead stepchild and tortured it with heavy daily use. It's fallen down a flight of concrete stairs and my idiot neighbor dropped it off his roof when I stupidly let him borrow it. While I don't recommend treating your power tools this way, my dewalt drill has taken everything I can dish out and still works as well as the day I bought it.
br / The battery life is excellent. I've put hundreds of hours of actual use to them and in five years had to purchase one replacement. Be careful to deplete the charge before recharging the battery. If you place the ni-cad battery on the charger before it needs charging, you will kill the battery life. This is true with all ni-cad batteries, and has nothing to do with Dewalt.
br / The adjustable torque can be set to stop at a very delicate setting, or you can set it with enough torque to rip your arm off if that's more your style. The molded plastic drill bit holders are very nice for keeping spare bits within easy reach and prevent constantly looking around wondering where you left your bits.
br / If you're looking for a cordless drill with enough power to make it through a long day on the jobsite or just a great drill for home improvement, this is the one. I highly recommend this drill! you won't be disappointed.

The compact design is great gets into areas that I couldn't with my 16.4 volt Craftsman. I've put my Craftsman out to pasture. It's not even in the same league as the DeWalt. Best drill I've had no complaints in any area of this drill.

I've had this drill for about 8 months now and used it in a variety of settings for all sorts of purposes. I am amazed at how long the batteries hold a charge, and how they seem to be immune from even subfreezing temperature. I left it outside on the porch after finishing a project; the temperature fluctuated between upper teens and low 30's for the week it went unfound. I brought it in, thinking the battery was dead, and went to get the other. Out of curiosity I pulled the trigger and it was immediately at full speed. Without changing batteries I took it to the shop and used it over the next several hours with not a whimper. I am impressed. The smaller size and lighter weight make it a dream to use. I'm not convinced that the lack of "XRP" on the batteries make any detectable difference at all. The price is steep at "street list" and I've seen them go for much less, so be patient.

Whether your are a contractor, carpenter or a do-it-yourselfer this is a great tool. It is compact, lightweight and packs quite a punch. You'll have no problem taking this drill wherever you need to go. Someone once told me that DeWalt was the Cadillac of drills. This is my first DeWalt. After driving a Cadillac, it's difficult to go back to anything else.

The drill has met my expectations. It is a replacement for a model 929 that failed shortly after the 1 year warranty expired. This drill has performed to my expectations so far. It is the 3rd dewalt battery-operated drill I've owned, and is one of many dewalt power tools I currently own.

I own 5 DeWalt products, the have proven to be tough and reliable, the only problem I have ever had is one of chucks go so tight It was unusable but that was after 3 years of use in machine building business.

To me, whether a drill is 14.4v or 18v is immaterial. What counts is size, weight and torque. How it is achieved is irrelevant. That being said, I whittled my choices down to the 15.6 Panasonic and this compact 18v DeWalt. The Panasonic looks like a winner, but reviews on this site showed too many examples of early battery death (and charger issues) for me. That left the Dewalt, I ordered it, I'm happy. brDeWalt states 4.5lbs, usually manufacturers lie so I weighed it - 4lbs 6.5oz! That's LESS than advertised. Size wise, it's tiny versus my old Craftsman 18v drill, it's about the size of a large 12volt drill but has gobs of torque. Unlike the new 3 speed DEwalt's, the clutch DOES work on both settings (it's "only" a 2 speed box). Presumably, the batteries won't last as long as the XRP Dewalt's since they're a bit smaller but to me that's a compromise worth taking - weight and size is everything in a cordless drill.

This is an excellent drill. I've owned it for 3 years and used it pretty heavily during that time. The exterior of the drill is pretty beat up at this point, but everything still works the way it should. One of the batteries started draining quickly recently, and so I replaced it. The batteries carry a good charge, and I can get 4-6 hours of use out of them before losing power. The case the drill and charger come in is pretty good and clips shut tightly. Ultimately, I replaced it with a tool box because I like to have all my bits together with the drill and there was no room in the case that came with the drill to store them.

br /A feature I would love to see DeWalt adopt would be to flatten the back side of the drill and batter so that the drill could be set flat on its back and not tip over. This would be really useful when trying to use it in a confines space. I used to have an old Panasonic drill that was made that way, and it was great.

I ordered this item for my husband for Christmas...Well it arrived today and it is the wrong one. They sent a 1/2' drill instead of the 3/8". They said it was a substitution because the 3/8" is discontinued. They didn't even contact me to see if it would be ok to substitute. Now I have to wait for my account to be credited and probably have to pay the shipping to send the wrong item back...........merry christmas!
