I bought one of these earlier this year and, even though my DeWalt cordless drill has similar capabilities, find myself reaching for it first for household jobs. I am amazed at the battery life and am very satisfied with the quality of the unit - I accidentally dropped it in the dirt and have used it outside in the rain with no problems. To repeat my summary, this is a good, reliable product that I am very happy with.

Heavy duty construction - (I can't tell you how many times I have accidentially dropped this thing...) The cradle for charging is extremely small and compact, making it easy to position anywhere (comes with mounting hardware) Long lasting charge that stays charged when other brands don't...(I have my share of rechargeable appliances, this item definately holds a charge after being off the charger) My dad laughed when I purchased this item from a local hardware store, but he watched me effortless-ly put up my Ikea shelves, never even turning around to ask for his help... He soon changed his tune from hahaheehee, to: Hey! that's a pretty neat idea...I wonder if...? He soon found many uses for a cordless screwdriver- . Days later, he asked to borrow it, and since he works on his rental property homes on a regular basis he definately had a need for a basic tool such as this one. He purchased a different brand, one that is entirely black with red accents----- I don't remember the brand, I just know that it doesn't look tough, it looks beat up- it seems to always be out of power, and the knobs (or switches for on/off) have gotten loose, and look tacky. Black plastic easily looks scuffed and appears older than it really is. I have had my bd screwdriver for over a year, and when my dad's is all out of power, he says : Chris, Can I borrow your Black Decker screwdriver?

Let me start out my saying that I love my wife for getting me this as a gift. This is the gift that just keeps on giving.pThe Black Decker 9074TB 3.6 Volt Screwdriver is perfect for any job around the house that would involve the painstaking task of driving in screws. I just finished putting up several shelves in my bedroom, and it has never been easier thanks to this wonderful product. pThe automatic spindle lock gives you much better control, allowing for no stripping or over-tightening, or even just for simple, manual use. Its sleak design and narrow nose gives you the ability to get into tight places with great ease. pThis is a well-designed product with a super charge life. Besides being durable and fairly lightweight, the wall-mounting charge base should make it a lot easier to find. This screwdriver works extremely well, and will make a fine addition to any tool box.

Having gone through two years of going with manual solutions, I finally bought this baby and saved an overall 50-60% of time that I normally employed to screw/unscrew all that a PC repair tech might think of. Plus the interchangeable head is a real plus. You never screw too tight or too loose, every job is a perfect fit. Would appreciate a longer lasting battery though.

Since I own the pivoting model, I bought this one, too, for good measure. I took it to 4H summer camp week last year for the kids to use on their woodwork class projects, so I know its ruggged. I used it to assemble my big work tables for the shop area, too. Quite a useful tool to keep around, especially when you have lots of screws to run. It doesn't have quite the power you would think, like when running short drywall screws into wood, but it will do those jobs. I really like the nuetral position on the switch, which lets you lock the tool off. The pivot model needs that switch feature, too. Often, it starts running while in my back pocket or tool tote when the switch catches on something.

This little cordless screwdriver comes in handy for many jobs around the house. It doesn't have the strength for large jobs, but on even the biggest jobs its ability to get into tight corners is useful. As for the length of charge: I misplaced mine while moving and left it in a cold storage unit unplugged for six months. It still had a useable charge after rescue from the bottom of a box.

I just moved my daughter into college and had to put together one of those 'do-it-yourself' TV stands. Since we came from out-of-town I had left my Makita at home. Her roommates mother brought one of these. My first thought was, "oh-no, no where near enough power or charge." As it turned out, it had plenty of both! I was so impressed I'm getting one for myself. I would recommend this to anyone for around the home projects when your Makita is just overkill.

This cordless screwdriver is great for the normal around the home type jobs. The forward/reverse action allows for driving or retriving the screws, along with a spindle lock for starting the screw manually. The screwdriver is rated at 180rpm with 40 in/lbs of torque, which will not allow the over torque of a screw or even stripping a screw out, even in hardwood! The charging system is great, it seems to last even longer than the rating of 350 screws on a charge.pA great handy screwdriver for around the house.

Too weak and too big for small spaces

This screwdriver is too weak for doing anything serious. It's good for a couple of screws here and there, but try to do anything like putting a piece of Ikea furniture together and it runs out of batteries before getting done and it's not powerful enough to drive some of the screws. I've had it in its charging cradle hung up on the wall and the battery degarded quite quickly as well.
br /
br /This would be forgivable if this tool was one of the kind that bends so it can get into small spaces, but it doesn't even do that.
br /
br /Was not very happy with this tool. The best feature was the overtorque protection.

I got this for my spouse and he loved it. Its easy to use, runs as long as he needs for the minor projects and repairs he does. If you are a professional who'd use a tool like this, it won't last nearly as long as you'll need. The target audience should be the average John or Jane who really just wants to make the few times a screwdriver is needed a month less work so things get fixed in a timely fashion.

Great product for everyday jobs.

I used to think that for a consumer to purchase an electric screwdriver was the pinnacle in laziness. How hard is it to screw in a screw or two? After receiving one as a gift, I think that this is a great product to have around for those everyday screwdriver-related jobs - fixing switchplates, putting pre-drilled things together - that kind of thing. It comes with a medium sized Philips and flat head bit. If you want smaller (children's toys, watches, eyeglasses) or larger (big furniture screws, construction screws) than that, you need a different kit.
br /
br /Unlike some of the other reviewers here, I did find that mine held a charge long enough to do virtually any project. I also like the reverse feature for removing screws. The charger can get warm (although mine did not seem in danger of igniting my house on fire, like one reviewer below reported). It did not get hot enough to burn anyone - just warm.
br /
br /The two drawbacks of this item are that the body is a bit wide for some jobs. A regular screwdriver would be slimmer and able to fit into spaces where this thing does not. The other thing is that it does not have a tip that pivots for use in awkward spots, typically ones in which anything but a stubby screwdriver would be too long to fit into the available space at 90 degrees to the screw, if you know what I mean.
br /
br /In summary, I use this screwdriver two or three times a week. It's great because although you do have to devote an electrical outlet to it, you don't have to get out the toolkit every time you need to do a small task. It's light, most-purpose, and does the advertised task very well. I recommend it.

I purchaced this screw driver for small projects. Jobs that I didn't want to strip the screw or "over-drive" the screw. It is perfect for that use.
br /
br /The handle is comfortable and it holds a charge a good long time. The downside is the driver does not come with a case like the old Black and Decker drivers did and doesn't come with exchangeable batteries. You can "replace" the battery but you can't have a backup battery charged up and waiting.
br /
br /Overall a very good product for fair price.

I like the cordless screwdriver. It is perfect for basic household jobs, however, it doesn't have enough power to change the bit to a drill bit to drill through sheet rock with much authority.

I like tools only because I like to do improvements in my house by myself and because as a mom I have to be very familiar with the battery compartiments of my baby's toys and ready to follow complicated instructions for any kind of baby's stuff (from security gates to strollers and all his Fisher Price toys!)... and almost anything has lots of screws. This tool also allows me to care more my hands: I do not need to be pushing a manual screwdriver until I cannot give anymore.
br /I particularly love this tool more than any other. It is versatile and very easy to use so I do not need to read the instruction booklet. The rechargeable battery lasts a lot and is very fast to recharge. The weight and lenght are just perfect. Moreover: is silent (at least not too noisy) and fast. It can screw or unscrew (it has a reversible mode).
br /If you do not find useful this tool is because the kind of work you want to do demands to use something else. You cannot use this tool if you need, i.e., a drill or precision instruments. Neither can you expect to use this to change the battery of a watch! I mean if you use it for what is designed it will work great.
br /I recently bought new doors for my house. The guys that came to install them used my screwdriver because theirs was too heavy to use. They fell in love with this tool just like me.

My old BD screw driver out lived it usefullness after many years. There are many versions to choose from. This model is more pwerful than most at 3.6 volts I am a motorcyclist and perform most maintenance chores, and this is an excellent choice for removing all the fasteners from the bodywork. Small enough that it eliminates the possibilty of scratches. Perfect tool for my needs!

I had a Black Decker 3.6 Volt screwdriver that finally, after 15 years of monthly use, finally gave up the ghost. It was always used for all tasks, like servicing the rain Gutters, building Whirlly Birds, very, very useful. Well, my New one is up to the Task, only better. The very slight "Bend" in the grip gives better purchase for handling. Five Stars.
br /You will not be disappointed ! And, Black and Decker prices are very reasonable and their Guarantee is tops!

Web site indicated that the screwdriver came with a wall-mount charger, but it actually came with a simple plug-in, like most others these days. So I returned it. My 10 year old wall-mount Black and Decker Powerdriver battery finally crapped out, so I was looking for similar. Cannot comment on merits of the new one.

I purchased some inexpensive "assembly required" furniture (coffee table, entertainment center, nightstand, and few other kits). As an afterthought, I purchased this rechargeable screwdriver. I'm glad I did. pCheaper than a full function drill (and a lot lighter), this screwdriver is small, maneuverable and just what the doctor ordered. No more sore forearms and wrists. So far I've use it to assemble furniture, take apart PC cases, screw down hard drives, add new faceplates for phone jacks, and even drove a few screws into drywall. pWhen the battery runs out, or you need extra torque, you can lock it into manual and turn it like a regular screwdriver. It is well built and rugged. I highly recommend this product.

I used to use a BD cordless screwdriver, but gave it away when I found it often took as long, or longer to use this tool than using a manual screwdriver. Sure, it's faster when you have a LOT of screws or very long screws, but a cordless drill is faster still, and has the advantage of variable speed and more power. Using this screwdriver to drive long wood screws is an excercise in patience as you watch it sloooowly drive the screw in and then quit halfway as it runs out of power.pCordless screwdrivers are cheaper than drills, true, but overall I think the classic 7.2volt Makita cordless drill is just about as compact, much more versatile, much more powerful, lasts much longer and will drive a lot more screws on a charge.

I got this for my son who works as a lot attendant at a car dealership. He has to install license plates on new cars. He took it to work and as he was putting on his fifth plate it started making a grinding noise internally and stopped working. I had thrown out the receipt (my own fault), so we just wrote it off. We certainly won't be buying another one though.

Note: This is a review of the VP750; it got listed in the wrong place! I went through two of these before I switched to the much more capable Dewalt DW920K. The clip inside that makes contact with the battery broke on both my units and I ended up returning them both and upgrading to the Dewalt. However, when the the BD unit worked, it worked well for home use. I was always using it. But it does not have enough torque for heavy duty use (deck screws). I still have my old BD 9074TB hanging in my laundry room for home use while the Dewalt sits in the garage for "serious" work.

To say I am displeased with the performance of this tool would be an understatement. The only way I would be pleased, is if I wanted to commit arson. This tool's AC adapter welded itself together, melted it's insulation (Plastic) and started a fire on the wall going up to the floor joists (it was on the wall in the basement) and proceeded to burn the house to the ground. I got out alive (barely), and I am grateful for that. After recovering from the fire I vowed only to purchase tools approved for sale in Japan or Europe. Underwriters Laboratories is just too cozy with Black Decker/DeWalt, so I will never buy another thing from them!
