After using up two combo kits from DeWalt (1 14.4 1 18 ) One from Porter cable (19.2v)And Two from Craftsman (18v)in the last 3 years , I finally stepped up to real tools with many real world benefits. I Love the solid, balanced feel. They work all day. They really are superior tools. For instance, with heavy use the output shaftof many cordless drills gets loose and floppy. Makita chose a metal gear case with a large ball bearing support for its massive output shaft. This means no floppy chucks and smoother operation. The motor is physically larger, also supported with ball bearings. This enables the unit to produce higher torque with more efficiency than the others. This means longer life,But more importantly, it means MORE POWER !The saw just walks through 2x10's. At the same time it is quite capable of producine fine cuts for trim. The light is is on par with any 18v light.I do have a little trouble removing the batteries from it though. All in all the best combo kit on the planet.

You can't beat this combo. Both pieces have more power than seems possible without a pain in the ass cord to trip over. The saw cuts through 3/4" plywood like butter and the drill dials in to delicate screw driving and out to masonry drilling power. All in a light easy to handle package.

Finally a drill that will do what is pictured on the box. The Makita 18v with all metal housing will spin a 1 1/4 ship auger bit without stripping out the clutch, and/or housing. It will also spin a 4"-6" hole saw in double 5/8" drywall or 3/4" plywood. The circ saw has a large table for stable cutting at the slower RPM. Too often, in the field, cordless saws are compared to their corded counterparts and recieve bad marks. This saw will change the reviews

This is a great buy. The drill has more power than most corded ones. It also outlasts most cordless drills. The battery packs last a long time. The nice thing is that the drill and saw have interchabgeable battery packs. If one dies you can use the other while it is charging. The saw isn't anything to write home and brag about. what you have to realize is that it isn't made to do the same jobs as a 7 1/2 inch circular saw. this saw is meant for small jobs. The batteries die out on this saw rather quickly too. But, overall it is a great product. I never regretted getting mine.

As I live in Ireland where tool prices are outrageous, I tend not to buy my power tools there. I am fortunate to have a willing brother in law living in California who in his own words is my "tool-mule". Whenever he returns to Ireland for a holiday I ensure that he has at least one power tool to keep him company on the long journey. His last travelling companion was the Makita DK1016 combination set. I am absolutely delighted to have purchased same. The cordless saw is a dream to use and effortlessly cuts through 3/4" plywood and MDF. The charge in the batteries lasts and if you ensure that they are completely discharged prior to recharge then there is no memory effect. The drill has plenty torque and power and again is a joy to use. All in all, one of the finest peices of equipment I have purchased.

I own a wood shop with my nine year old son, and several years before he was born i purchased my first makita cordless drill. it was the 7.2 volt model ,i think it was the year before makita opened there plant in buford georgia. i figured it would be suitable for driving sheetrock screws. well it has driven more screws than my electric drills. i can't seem to kill it although i have tried-iv'e replaced the battery once. not bad for seventeen years old. recently i purchased a 9.6 volts makitapbecause i thought it had good balance and power between 7.2 volt and the 12 volt models and because it was light for overhead work with plenty of power. i also purchased the 18 volt combo pack. the saw has plenty of power. i had a bosch 24 volt saw that a friend let me try for a while. also another good saw with plenty of power but to darn heavy to operate all day. i would come home and my arm was SPENT. I LOVE MY MAKITA TOOLS. i have never used a corded drill or saw for quite a while and would be lost without them. the 12 volt trim saw works great when doing overhead work like wood cielings or inside / outside trim. i think it is priced fairly for all the work it has done for me and i work a tool hard a lot of days of the week.

Look no further!

-I had to replace my Makita 18volt Drill it was stolen. I went to my local tool dealer and tried out other drills. Dewalt,Porter Cable,Skil,Ryobi and Bosch in all the voltage ranges and colors. I can say that Makita quality is what made me go back. I dont know much about the saw but it is probably as good as it gets. The drill has the power of a Mack truck. It is definately comfortable to use all day. I have no complaints. I just purchased the replacement from Amazon. Do not waste your time looking for a better drill it is the best.

I buy tools for a construction company. I bought two of these kits over a year and a half ago. The screws in the saw base are all ways falling out. The batterys have been replaced twice. BUT the worst thing is, the chucks are always working lose. The drill is balanced good for a 18 volt and the saw (When New) could rip down some 2x lumber.

I have been sold out on the Makita line of cordless tools sinceI first started buying them in 1979. The reasons are as follows:1. you can find them in cities the size of los Angeles or as small as MT.Vernon, Kentucky 2. the warranty goes much farther than any of the supposed famous brands made in america. 3. My Makita tools have proven to be better than any of the competition countless times, not at home, but on large construction sites where i put them through more than extreme conditions on a day to day basis. 4. If you buy your tools from just about any big retail store, see what you have to go through to get a minor problem taken care of. I feel confident that the new items will live up to the fine tradition of excellence I have come to count on when buying what I personally consider to be the BEST cordless tools money can buy.

-Makita products have to be be the best. The 18v Drill is absolutely the best . I would not recommend any other brand if you are looking for high output and durability. The cordless saw has ripped through at least 150 feet of 1/2 inch plywood per charge from experience. Look no further, the competition does not stack up.

This is my story .
br / I went on a mission to find one tool set like this and there were many .
br / Since sears was close by I first got the set they offered , a circular saw and drill in a case .
br / The drill was nice but the saw useless so back it went .
br / A friend is really onto dewalt and raved about his so I went out but could not find the size saw he had and dewalt made the saw still but a larger blade diameter .
br / Now the drill was inpressive but the saw was no better than the sears model , both shared the same problem , a base that rocked on any flat surface and to make matters worse it flexed with the slightest amont of pressure .
br /' This may be fine if you are cutting thin paneling and don't need a square edge but for anything else it is useless and the dewalt had a switch that would catch and this made it difficult to use .
br / So finally I looked at the makita set and both the drill and the saw were very well made , both had all metal gear cases and both were built with precision .
br / I have been using them both for a few years now and they are the first tolls I will grab even though I do have power a few feet away .
br / The saw is light and balanced with a base that is stable and cuts a perfect 90 degree cut it will go through 2x4's with ease and it is quiet .
br / The depth lock lever is one of the best I've seen and the handle and switch safetly lock are right where you want them to be and simple to use .
br / Hands down the best cordless combo I have seen . I still looked at others after this purchase but none were in the class of these two tools .
br /I have used the drill for very small light work and drilling large holes , also as a power driver and in all applications it has worked well . It is large but very well balanced .
br / These tools I don't believe were designed to replace corded power tools but to add flexability to the job .
br / All rechargeable power tool batteries run down and need to be charged and I don't expect anyone is capable of giving an accurate run time . It depends on what you are cutting or drilling and the size of the bits or screws . Anyone knows this so for one to say the batteries run down too quickly tells me nothing at all . They ripped a 2x4 and it went dead , was it wet , did it have alot of knots , were you cutting using a guide of just forging on ahead blindly and binding the blade and what sort of condition was the blade in , nice and sharp or a bit on the dull side after hitting a few nails ?

I bought the 18V drill/saw combo about 4 months ago. I am building a house and the tools have seen heavy use during this period. I have been very impressed with the torque and speed of both units. The saw is especially impressive as it will easily rip a piece of 4x8 3/4" plywood as well as cut through all 2x material with ease. pThat said, I have been dissapointed with the workmanship of the units. I had to return the drill after the first use as the battery became lodged in it. The folks at the place I bought it couldn't get the battery out either. The replacement drill has worked great though. The saw has been especially dissapointing. After the first month of use the screws that hold the base started loosening and, even with intermittent tightening, eventually fell out. The base was slightly out of square with the blade and had to be straightened. And most recently, the handle for the guard broke off. Finally, I have been a bit dissapointed with the battery life for both units.pOverall, I am pleased with the performance, if not the quality, of the units but would recommend going with a more expensive (i.e. higher quality) brand if the units will be placed in a constant use situation.

These tools are incredibly powerful, and the price for this combo is exceptional for this quality. I never had any doubt that the drill would be top quality, as the name Makita has a reputation when it comes to cordless drills. It is perfectly balanced, making it very ergonomic, and it has so much power, it can drive screws all day with ease. The saw worried me that it may have been a throw-in, something to complete the combo package. Not even. I immediately put it to work cutting overhanging 2 x 6's on a 10 x 10 deck. It cut through these boards with the greatest of ease. I had a 6 1/2 inch electric Black and Decker circular saw previously, and the cordless saw cut with more power. I was amazed. Not dragging a cord behind, and not only not sacrificing power but gaining some. pA true bargain for any handyman or "weekend warrior", I don't see how anyone would be disappointed with this outstanding workmanship.

I bought this set after using a dewalt 14.4V drill driver. After thinking how wonderful it was I decided I needed my own cordless. To my surprise it far surpased the Dewalt I had used. This drill puts 3" grabber screws through 2x4's like pushing your finger through warm butter. The saw is great also, it leaves my corded skil saw in the dust. These are the best tools I have ever owned. My only regret is not getting them earlier.

The saw's base plate screws do come loose and do fall out. All those people who gave this combo 5 stars should take a closer look at their saw. pI used my saw only twice. Once to rip 6 ft of lumber and once to cross cut 2 ft of the same lumber. When I went to use it a third time it didn't have enought power to finish my cut. When I replaced the battery I noticed one of the base plate screws was missing and the others were loose. I replaced all the base plate screws with screws a 1/4" longer and added locking nuts to keep them from coming loose again. I also used the two batteries right away leaving the drill empty. pI found the drill to be very powerful and heavy. For my uses it is probably overkill.pIf you are thinking of getting a combo pack I recommend buying the tools separate. Check out the 18v Dewalt saw, (...)(no base plate screws to come loose!)and try the Makita 9.6v drill. The total cost is comparable to a combo pack but you will end up with the usefull saw that you want and the right size of drill along with 4 batteries instead of only 2. pNow go build something!
